Dick Spanner should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Agreed but Lambo have occupied this class in the past (Urraco, Jalpa, er... can't remember any more at the mo') admittedly the car's were rubbish but the way I see it the Gallardo is probably the baddest and brashest if not the biggest in the Junior Supercar class and should be praised accordingly.

Having said all that, I wouldn't buy one either because I don't like the look's of the thing (well, that and not being able to afford one!). My choice at the moment would be the Ford GT or, as you say pay the extra for the Murky.

Any idea what they're planning to do with the Toyota pick-up next week?

No. But on past experience, I reckon it might involve a caravan...

I thought it might be to load it until it collapses but perhap's that's too predictable.

I'd like to see them get a brace of Ladas and crush them all with a monster truck.

If I recall correctly, they did an SUV version of the Hilux called the 4 Runner (also called the Surf if imported) and if I didn't think I'd be testing it's resistance to rolling on a regular basis I'd be sorely tempted.

Yep, the 4 Runner is basically the pickup with a body.

Compared to modern 4x4s, like Toyota's own Landcruiser, it's a bit ... ahem ... agricultural.

I got annoyed with that bit on the Toyota's. That poor car! and i didn't like the way all the lifeguards had to "save" it. What if there had have been a real emergency? Sorry if i sound all moany, but its the truth!

And the fire - they put it out as soon as the camera's stopped rolling, cos if they had left it, all the paintwork would have flaked off with the heat of the flames!

I think the RNLI would have torn themselves away from laughing at the pick-up if there'd been a real call ... anyway, if they'd lashed it down properly it'd have stayed put!!

And Toyota pick-ups LIKE to be treated like that! I know - I asked one!

I think you're right about the fire though.

Wonder what they had to do to get it going after its dip in the sea - the sump would be full of sea water for a start. How long will a car run on a mix of sea water and oil?

... and did they have to replace any wiring after the fire ??

They must have done more to it than Jeremy was letting on. That car wasn't completely wrecked, but like spearce said, it wouldn't run on sea water for long!

I'm not sure about that. An engines oil system is pretty well sealed so providing the dipstick stayed in it would be hard for water to actually enter the crank case as long as they drain the air intakes etc. Even then, if you take the glow plug's out and crank the engine over you'll pump most of the water out, and I doubt enough would get through to stop the engine from running.

Wouldn't recommend trying it though.

Believe me, you don't! If you really want a pickup try the Mitsubishi Animal. We have had both at work and the Mits is MILES better than the ancient Toyota.
