Without having looked at re-runs of previous years, could it be that it is to avoid LMP2, GTE Pro or GTE AM class being split, so half the class is on the straight and the other half in the corner, therefore destroying potential racing?

Random thought. Will they need a new (ceremonial) flag stand for the start now? Not a lot of use waving the tricolour when the lead cars are 145m up the road.

I'm sure they are. If you look here, they're working in 2 areas, the first in the foreground (which I assume is the electricals being installed on the new start line), and the new flag stand (or whatever it's called) further up by the beginning of the DHL advertising. Could be wrong though...

Maybe they will wave the tricolour from the ground in a similar fashion to the finish? (Well knowing that the speed the cars come towards the flag waver would be tremendously different)

No such would be suicidal

Where would he even stand, in the grass, or behind the white line next to the wall? The cars won't necessarily go just double file at the start, but can be all over the place... and if there were somehow to be a repeat of Paul Ricard 2011 LMS start fiasco for example, well...
