heldring should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
la sarthe and the nordschleife

hello motor sport lovers,

we have to wait another two months for the two most famous turns of the clock in a year !
motor sport only knows two highlights : le mans and nurburgring !!
who the hell has come on the idean to organise two major 24 hour events in the same weekend ?
romantic times of formula are a long time ago, there were only two left.....
and the lovers of 24 hour racing can only visit one.....
is this not a bloody shame ? .....
you are on circuit de la sarthe, knowing that the porsches dive down in the fuchsrohre at the same time.......a true motor sport fan cannot handle this situation......
what to do about ? please, help a dutch petrol head in panick !!

ernst heldring, hilversum, the netherlands

I think you can go to Nurburg this year and to Le Mans next year.

Well I'm doing both this year, although I do miss the race at the Nurburgring by a day or so...

Still it is a daft calendar that has them both at the same weekend!

No, neither of them. But there are Audis in both. Only that at the Ring, it's not yet certain one of them will win.

Better than nothing.
And the Porsches won't run away with the win in their class, either!

Other drivers have done this in the past, too (Klaus Ludwig, Bernd Schneider I believe). Clashing dates have unfortunately become the rule rather than the exception in recent years.

Aha, so we know the winners in three classes! (well, no - four. Have a look at the Courage C65 and you know what will win LMP2.)

A bank holiday on the seconf Friday of June. One less day the volunteers have to take off. So they try and schedule the race around this "long weekend" whenever they can. It's as easy as that.

In the VLN you find a lot of classes. Between touringcars as Suzuki Swift GTÃ* (class V1) to BMW M3 with 500 HP, GT cars from Porsche 964/993/996 GT3 Cup/RSR/Turbo to Dodge Viper. V8star, DTM cars from Opel and Audi. Normally more than 150 cars. By the 24h race max. 220 cars on track. On 24h race 2003: 194.000 visitors, normally on a VLN race: 10-20.000 visitors.
