Graphics cards
I am currently having a drama with my new computer.
im running windows XP and a SiS 650 onboard graphics chipset. its pretty good but I have also managed to land a GeForce 4 card for the AGP port. unfortunately I didnt get the installation disk with it so I am in a spot of bother. I inserted the card into the AGP and turned the comp back on , but to my displeasure windows didnt detect the new hardware. I tired installing it manually but to no avail. does anybody know what I need to do to get the card working ??? or do i have no chance at all ?? CHEERS Marcus |

As it has an onboard graphics chipset there must be an option to disable it in the bios and maybe enable the agp slots use.

Doesn't it automatically detects a new device in the agp slot??

The correct way to do it would be, install the drivers for the new card (avaliable at nvidia.com), with the onboard graphics on, then when it prompts for restart, do it. Then disable the onboard card in the bios and install in the AGP card. Save the changes in the bios, and then restart.
An AGP slot should always be on, if not try looking in the bios in PCI of plug and play sections, ought to be in there Just out of interest is it a "legal" copy of XP? I had a copy previously (now using a legit version of XP Pro), and occasionally had trouble with it recogniseing hardware. Otherwise once it is installed try looking at Device Manager, in the System - hardware section. See if it appears in there. Let us know what happens, and if it works or not Regards Ed Last edited by Try Hard; 28 Nov 2003 at 15:41. |

I run the same card and XP recognised it staight away. I also downloaded newer drivers as I was getting problems with the screen going blured and freezing.
