Minardi engine deal: The wait is almost over
Minardi's engine for 2002 will be announced at Spa. It's going to be either Ferrari or Asiatech. Oh my life...

From e heart...i hope its the Ferrari... From e head... i think it ought to be the Ferrari too. First, Minardi secured a strong financial package for next year, while Prost (e only other rival for engines) couldnt. Second, Ferrari had openly stated their disappointment with the Prost team. Third, Prost dont sound extremely confident when claiming his deal with Ferrari is done. But from what i recall, i thought that Ferrari had an existing deal with Prost that ends next year...which would be void only when Prost couldnt pay...so to wish Minardi the engine is to wish Prost's failure... Still...MINARDI PLEASE TAKE THAT FERRARI 050!!~ |

New Sponsor/New Engine
It is widely reported in the press this morning that Magnum Corp. Bhd. which seems to be a Malasian casino operator has come on board as a sponsor. Maybe they will be able to pay for the Ferrari.

Please don't be Asiatech, please don't be Asiatech...
All of the news sites I have read indicate that it is not going to go the way of the Prancing Horse. Please Mr. Stoddart, disprove them all  |

Would any team seriously consider an Asiatech engine against a Ferrari regardless of the money thing. You may as well go to Renault and ask for a 2.2 Diesel against the Asiatech engine!!, more reliable and better fuel economy and not a Peugeot cast off

The only reason I can see Minardi would take the Asiatechs is that they are free. However, thanks to Yoong coming on board, Minardi have the money to pay for the Ferrari engines...
Oh the suspense... |

Minardi Engine
There has also been some talk that they will build their own engine, or buy them from Fondmetal which is now building Cosworths under license if I remember the earlier threads correctly.

I have a feeling that it wont be Ferrari unfortunetly. Paul Stoddard said the anouncement would be low key. You'd think it would be a big deal if they got the Ferrari's. My guess is that they have partnered with a manufacturer who will help them develop their current engine. He has said that their current motor is already more powerful than the AMT motor.
I want it to be Ferrari, but I dont think it will be. BD |

Ferarri or Asiatech? Well if they haven't gone for Ferarri, then I think John B&Q has a slightly used, one-careful-owner 1.8 Honda engine going cheap over in the Touring Cars forum. That could outrun a car with two asiatech engines in it...
