www.f1.on.net: Minardi Denies Webber Deal
Saw this Artical on www.f1.on.net
[QUOTE] "Minardi Denies Webber Deal" {The European Minardi team has denied that they have signed the impressive youngster, mark Webber for the 2002 season. Webber was a front runner in this season's F3000 championship and also tested for Benetton during the summer. The Australian missed out on the second Minardi seat to Alex Yoong late this season and Paul Stoddart, the Minardi team boss said that this was down to the management of Flavio Briatore being too involved in decision making, Stoddart's comments were highlighted recently as Fernando Alonso - also managed by Briatore - was signed to Renault for 2002 as a test driver. Reports in the Italian press this week stated that Webber has signed a deal with Minardi, but Stoddart denies this: "It is absolutely not true. "He is one of a number of drivers to whom we are talking and there is no likelihood of a driver announcement for some time. There is no need to rush it."} maybe the deal's already done !!!!!!!!!! or is this just another rumor ??????? GO MARK WEBBER !!!!!!! |

Hopefully the story is true & Webber has landed the drive at Minardi.

Perhaps it's because Stoddart is trying to get Frentzen?

I would be immmensely surprised if Webber didn't end up at Minardi. Simply, he's a straight swap for Alonso. He's probably already signed if anything.

The thing is he has no sponsorship money which could be a problem.
As for Frentzen, his manager thinks he'll stay at Prost so maybe there'll be no change there. |

Webber himself has said adamantly he will not drive a car which doesn't have potential. He is happy to stay at Bennetton for a seat because they can challenge for the podium he feels, (he is test driver.)

Welcome Splatz!
Webber isn't the test driver anymore. Alonso has that sewn up. I think (and hope) that we'll see Mark in either a Minardi, or a Prost (alongside Frentzen) at Melbourne in 2002. Frankly, I think he'll take any race seat that comes along at the moment. |
