Changing DRS to a "Push to Pass" system?
I was listening to the Motorsport Magazine podcast last night and on that Karun Chandok mentioned that there had been discussions about changing DRS to a "Push to Pass" system similar to the one used in Indy cars, still with the adjustable wing on the DRS, though. What are people's opinions on this? I know a lot of people have a problem with DRS as the leading car is at a distinct disadvantage. At least this way it evens it up a bit, plus giving it a limited number of uses.

My opinion is that push-to-pass is nonsense. If everyone has it, it will be the same anyway. The good thing about DRS is at least it counteracts the OTT effect of aero.

But it's still, technically, a 'Push to pass' system. Which, like the 'push to pass' system, doesn't always guarantee an overtake. But it does make you go faster when 'you' want to go faster. |

F1 has come such a long way, performance-wise, with aerodynamics that to remove what is necessary for the 'cars to be able to overtake', would mean such a radical increase in lap times, that even 1500 bhp wouldn't put a dent in it! Strangely enough, it's used to good effect in many open wheel, and closed wheel series. It used to be that back in the turbo era, drivers used to turn up their turbo boost to overtake the car in front. They couldn't use it all of the time because of limits on fuel and reliability. A similar thing still happens in F1 to this day. |

Is DRS not a 'push to pass' system anyway?

My car had a 'girly super power steering' button instead of the 'sport button'. Maybe that would be of more use to some of the drivers - especially around Monaco?

Agreed DRS is a push to pass.
The way I look at it, is it provides compensation for wake turbulence, so it more or less evens out a disadvantage. It would be difficult for any push to pass to provide the instant horsepower of DRS, and DRS seems to be working well and providing good racing. The DRS also makes a challenge when the drivers have to readjust as the downforce is reintroduced. If you want better racing get rid of a whole bunch of aero. DRS is the ultimate and relatively simple push to pass, why mess with it? |

They. Should incorporate a front element links to the DRS..faster and more potential failures...hmm.
