2007 - Year for "changing of the guard"??
Is this the year where there will be a significant "changing of the guard?"
IN Courtney, Kellys, Winterbottom, Tander, etc On the way OUT Skaife, Jones, Wilson, Ingall, etc!! Skaife was almost three-quarters of a lap down at the end of R1 and the car was 'loose" Mike |

Skaife, Ingall and Jones nearly all need to be in nursing homes. The likes of Youlden and co in the development series could be just as competive as these older generation drivers if they were given their equipment. |

Ignoring the OUTs because it can be a contentious subject... I can agree with the INs. Motorsport seems to follow the other sports of AFL, Tennis, Golf where the very best are relatively young.

Skaife is still 'in'.... he'll be back. He still has the pace and as they say, its easier to make a fast car reliable (or driver/rider consistent) than it is to make a slow combination fast. Jones and Wilson were never 'in' to begin with so they are still 'out'. Neither of them has come close to achieving anything in V8SC. |

Rusty no good?
Wow, there must be 27 drivers behind him calling their psychologist right at the moment then ... |

That is not to take anything away from Courtney, he just took a little longer to adapt. |

This will definately be the year of the young guns, Courtney, Whincup, Davison, Frosty, Kelly R and Co. will all be in the top ten in 07. I also think that Steve Johnson may have a pretty quick car this year, its just a matter of the boys staying on top of it and him staying in shape for a full season.

You guys are leaving out Canto and Holdsworth - who could surprise a few people this year.
They are both very impressive. |

What about Steve Owen he's been impressive. I'd like to see him in a HRT car, he'd go alright I reckon.

I reckon that the drivers that should be looking over there shoulder after round 1 and at the end of the year.
R.INGALL B.JONES P.MORRIS. As well as J.BOWE how has said he was haning up the helmet. As the above post mentioned the young guns will be a big force this year. |

I bet Courtney and Winterbottom will be practicing their starts for the next round. Overall though it was a great effort from the young blokes. Courtney and Whincup I thought were outstanding and will be better for the experience. Winterbottom most likely worked his brakes too hard and paid the penalty but had enough maturity not to put it into a wall.....well done boys!

Whilst I agree about the young guns coming into their own the comments about the older guys are very harsh. Ingall had his best result for a long while while Skaifes drive on Sunday was much better. There is plenty of fire left in the belly yet . It would be a great loss to Holden if Steve Owen goes to Stone Bros His drive at the end of Saturdays race was excellant, The race leader couldnt even close the gap let alone pass him. I know there was no need for Todd to pass Steve but they were puttingin the same lap times. Holdsworth was also going extremely well and not afraid to have a go . Definately one to watch , and in a VZ!

Both had impressive drives and with a change in luck, ironing out some of the bugs in the VE and if the rumoured new engines live up to expectations they could both be at the pointy end before too long. ..... and at least they have 3 points each out of the first round. |

Popular wisdom around here (thanks Timu!) suggests that Mr Owen is the Caltex #9 pilot for next season & beyond.
Quite where that puts ol' Rusty would be interesting... especially if he won the series... |
