Mark Webber's race
I noticed on Sunday when Louise on ITV interviewed Mark Webber after his retirement, he seemed even more disappointed then usual. Obviously he had a good strategy and was easily gaining on Rubens.
So my question is, if he had lasted the distance, would he have finished 3rd? I mean, Rubens drove a mediocre race way ahead of Montoya in 4th so I reckon that this was Webber's biggest chance for a podium gone begging...... (apart from Brazil 03) |

No, he would'nt have nailed 3rd. Although Rubins was pretty medioca, Ferrari would have made him pull his finger out if the Jag was threatening him.
4th could have been on though, but we will never know. As for the downward spitits, I think its just getting to him. When the car is at a tough track, it finishes, when its at a track it can get points, Mark has an early exit. I think that would get to any of us eventually. |

I don't know if he'd of got third but he was on for a good position. As a Webber supporter it was frustrating watching people that he was comfortably ahead of finish in high positions, the quicker he's out of that team the better & then maybe he can start turning his abilities in to podium finishes.

I thought Rubans said in the after race interveiw, with the top 3 finishers, that he had damaged rear suspension and could push no harder? If that was the reason why he was so slow compared to MS then maybe he could have caught but passed?

I agree with jetsetter's sentiments, and it would have been nice to have seen whether he could have challenged Reubens. If I'm feeling like I am, how frustrated, etc must Mark be feeling?

I think that Rubens took it easier as he know that he had no chance of catching the guys in front, and that the gap to the slower guy behind is big enough that it didn't make sense to risk pushing for nothing.

He just needs to get out of there. As Alan Jones said. Of the 6 races it is as follow
1) Tranny failure 2) Gets spun by Ralf 3) p8 4) p13 5) p12 6) Driveline failure The guy trys so hard and is always upbeat but that car is just a complete S**tbox. I think it would wear us all down eventually. I think he's almost definately going to be at williams next year. It's such a shame to see the talent just go to waste. |
