calloforion should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Newbie question.

Hello guys and girls.

I am a newcomer to the marshaling world on September 13th @ Brands Hatch for the Historic Car Championship's event. One thing that is puzzling me though is in regards to the different clubs. If i were to join for example the BARC club, would that exclude me from doing events for BRSCC? Or would I have to become a member of the BRSCC too?

Cheers
Rob

In short there is no requirement to belong to any club. Therefore, you don't need to be a member of, say, the BARC to marshal at one of their events and so on. If you were to join a particular club, then this membership wouldn't preclude you from marshalling at any other clubs events.

On a slightly different note, I would suggest that you don't worry about joining any clubs until you have experienced a few meetings and have decided whether you wish to continue marshalling and which meetings you find most enjoyable. However, I would suggest that you consider joining the British Motorsport Marshals Club.

I have said before, and will continue to say, that as far as I am concerned the only club a marshal needs to be a member of is the BMMC.

If you want to affiliate to any other club for other reasons, then that is obviously up to you.

Although it's worth noting that if you do enough days (12 at the last count) with them, BARC will reduce your membership to £0. I'm a member through this method but still do other clubs throughout the year.

Rob,

I am a committee member of BMMC-SE and also member of BRSCC and BARC. I will be at the HSCC meeting (on startline) -- contact me if you would like some more advice,

that advice has helped me as well, I am only into my 3 rd meeting and I didnt know what was out there and how to access it, I will certainly be taking up a membsership now as I can see myself really getting into marshalling!

Hi Rob

I agree with the other comments regarding BMMC membership-discounted overalls & personal insurance are 2 of the many benefits.

I don't know where you are based but if you do a lot of events at Silverstone, it's well worth joining the Marshal's Club there-the new reward scheme is good plus there's social events, such as the Summer hog roast last weekend.

Good luck!

Steve

just wondering, nothing against newbies or peeps who want to come and marshal posting threads asking for help, we need em and as always we always love to help, just got thinkin in work while i was bored and realised every couple of weeks we get the same thread from some wonderful person wanting to join our big weird family. would it be benificial to have some sort of newcomers guide with all the most frequently asked questions and answers on there we can update as time goes on and have it as a sticky at the top of the forum?

Where would you put said thread?? As this is the ''Marshals Forum'' it's the ONLY place to put a Q&A. Nearly all new marshals are pointed in the direction of ''tenths'', purely for that reason. I dare say that you have had to ask the odd question about marshalling matters, whether it be ''novice'' or otherwise?

My word Grav a sensible thought from you:

It seems a good idea and agree that these questions do seem to come round a lot , maybe a sticky at the top of the Marshals froum page would be good idea for the standard newbie questions, which most newcomers ask (or should ask) about clubs, equipment, how to volunteer and all the bits that I didnt know whane i started and I;m sure most of us did not know

The BMMC website www.marshals.co.uk is a wealth of information for potential/new marshals so maybe there should be a link on here to that?

I find this forum great for all the extra little queries that crop up to do with marshalling and started a thread up earlier in the year specifically for those type of questions, link here-

http://tentenths.com/forum/showthrea...hlight=general

I was hoping this could be a thread for any questions from trainees but it never really took off.

I am working on a couple of ideas to get more sponsorship for BMMC overals and therefor a lower cost to members.
