What in your opinions were the best years of the BTCC?
I reckon the late 80s/early 90s with the bad-boy Ford Sierra
RS500. What do you guys think?

Welcome Mr.Hobson-as ive only ever really been interested in the BTCC since it became a 2-litre series, i would have to say its a toss up between 1995 and 1998. Cant decide, though.

Welcome Hobson, i believe the best years have to be between 1995 and 1998.

Thanks for the welcome.

95 - 98 were good years, but don't you agree that
after 98 the grids started to decline? Will 2001 be any good
for BTCC with only Vauxhall and Peugeot being the works entrants? I know that MG/Rover is joining later on.

Early eighties.

Why? Big, hairy Rover Vitesses versus Ford Capri 3 litres, then later the first XR4T Sierras. Not to mention a whole heap of classes so that the minnows in the Metros and Fiestas could get in the way of the bigger machines and keep it interesting.

You had to be there.

TimD, you got it right there!

One bonus was the cars raced could be bought on the road,
not the horrible performance models now available.

Which is better, Ford Sierra Cosworth or Vauxhall Vectra SRi?

How about the '93 and I guess the '91 and '92 have got to be the best? I recall before the splitters/spoilers came, you could see the cars literally drifting sideways into the corners while post splitter/spoilers, the car literally sliced their ways through the corners?

I have the '93 season on tape. Probably will buy '91/'92 to see what was all the talk about Soper BMW about!

But yeah, as the grids went down, the racing kinda, naturally, got less exciting!

km.chow,if you read from the top,
I said the late 80's in my opinion were the best years.
95-98 were good years, but not the best.
In the 80's, the cars didn't have splitters/wings
(unless the road cars had them) but the cars did have lots
of power so they went broadside very easily.
