Forgot to point out it's the debut of a 2 litrePre War Alta in a rally with historic rallying's number one team Burnett and Haylock.
The Alta has been the fastest and most successful pre war Sports Circuit Racing Car in the last twelve years but it will be a miracle if they can do it in a proper rally. Doubt if they ever did a rally in period but it will be an intriguing exercise.. Never used to stay together for long periods due lack of preparation although they were well engineered. |

Not the same Alta though, John, is it! The circuit racer was a supercharged car whereas the one to be used for rallying is the unique normally aspirated example is it not? I'm betting it will also hang together better than in period!

It's the last Alta built before the war and has normal aspirated engine.
The bloke who bought the S/C car obviously found it's not that easy to drive as he wants the brakes to work! Now there's a first. |

The rally starts in a couple of days. Spectator points are now on the ERA website:
http://www.endurorally.com/pages/fly...ectator-points No doubt I'll try to watch at a couple of venues as it passes through North Yorkshire. Healthy list of entries: http://www.endurorally.com/pages/fly...5-participants |

Managed to spend a couple of hours this morning watching the cars pass across the North York Moors - so a few examples below. These were all taken as they headed down towards a 1in3 hill towards the village of Rosedale (with a 1in4 waiting for them on the other side).
I believe the crew of the Talbot 105 shown (car 77) includes John Ruston - apologies but having not yet met, not sure if John was the driver? |

Thanks both. Will try and post a few more when I can but just leaving for Silverstone shortly for the VSCC Spring Start meeting tomorrow. Bit of vintage theme this weekend!

That's me driving badly!
We have a six minute penalty for starting at wrong time on a stage. Should know better after all these years but probably old age It's very hard work, eleven hours yesterday and Michael Birch and I are knackered. |

We were given a 16 minute penalty which dropped us from 12th to 61st See what happens today as we thought we did well on what was a superb route . The rally's being led by various rally specials that are built specifically for job. |

1924 Vauxhall #55 seen on the M6 in Staffordshire last night comfortably overtaking a lorry in the middle lane, sounding powerful, hope I'll be running that well when I'm 91!

The Vauxhall 30/98 with Andrew Hall and Pattick Blakney Edwards of this parish was one of the top five cars on the rally.
Other than the Talbot it would be the one I would want. Alternative is to be given the 8 C Alfa and the real Le Mans Bentley , sell them and buy the rest of the cars Would then be in a position to scrap all those specials and get the rally back to real cars! |

Excuse the 'vintage colour effect' in a couple of these - been playing!
