Flying Scotsman Rally
I am aware that the Rally was discussed on another thread about Pre War racing.
Having taken part in it can I confirm it was the best Rally type event I have been involved with for years with speed, regularity and other bits and pieces that kept us all fully occupied for three days. Duxford IWM to St Andrews Old Course with good hotels pleasantl stops and all the other stuff that makes the difference.Roads superb. Well done Mr Young and Gang for organising the biggest and best Pre War only car rally in the last ten years with over 100 cars entered. The rest of you should try it. Compared to the Tour Auto its cheap with so much more competitive stuff. Have signed up for next year with same two Talbots. |

We went down to watch this at Blyton as we live quite near and passed a wonderful couple of hours watching these fabulous cars going round the track. Thanks to all who keep them going.

I'm posting this now, since I have just dried out from the Flying Scotsman ... and Paul Gregory, who owns the Invicta 4.5L that I co-drove, has just finished clearing the mud/frogspawn/gravel etc out of his car.
I only get the chance to experience Rallies like this due to Paul's generosity and neither of us are exactly experienced at them. But The FS Rally is well-organised and more competitive than social. As we knew little to F-all about competent navigation we were pleased to come 63rd - in fact pleased to finish. I can strongly recommend the FS if you are worried that you have not contracted flu/head cold for a couple of years. There are always quite a few first-timers in the line up, so you won't be the only one making elementary mistakes. Great fun. Nick |
