Nextel Cup Series - Dickies 500 at Texas.
Qualifying is just underway now for Sundays eighth round of the Chase for the Nextel Cup at Texas Motor Speedway.
Practice speeds: http://www.nascar.com/races/cup/2007...e1_speeds.html Allmendinger seems to be running strong at this stage and has actually just posted a qualifying speed even quicker than his practice speed. |

JPM grabs the provisional pole from his archrival Harvick! The crowd, I am pleasantly surprised to say, cheered loudly for him, with only a smattering of boos.
Damn it! Truex knocks JPM off the pole. Looks like another outside front row start for JPM. Edit: JG also beats JPM. JPM should start 3rd, unless Blaney manages to beat him, which is unlikely. Last edited by VilleneuveTracy; 2 Nov 2007 at 21:52. |

Truex!
I'm guessing Jeff will take the pole here. Cheering is bad VT, JPM is supposed to be the villain of the piece! |

I was wrong, Truex it is, with just Blaney to go. And quite frankly he won't be a threat.
Looks like the bosom buddies are lining up together on row two. All I want is one pole, to get into the Bud shootout. Dammit. Last edited by Knowlesy; 2 Nov 2007 at 21:56. |

Great qualifying run by JPM. An even better one by Jeff Gordon. LMAO when JPM knocked Harvick off the pole. The start of the Texas race should be interesting with JPM on the inside row and Harvick on the outside. If Harvick tries to cut him off I would expect JPM to put him in the wall.
I'm not wishing any bad luck to Johnson but I do hope that Jeff wins the race. |

JPM will win the race. Here is why. He won at Sonoma, round 17 of the series. Therefore, he has won every 17 races, Texas is round 34, 17 races later, he will win again.
Hows that for stupid theories? Might even beat a bit on the F1 boards! In all seriousness, he does have a VERY good shot at winning. |

I would be surprised if he had the car over the full distance, but a top ten is surely a possibility. He ran strong in the spring here.
*waits for tyre to blow out on lap ten* |

JPM!!! JPM is kicking azz. He pulled away by 1.1 seconds just five laps after taking the lead.

Early days yet. But it is nice to lead laps on an oval.
Hopefully the performance won't fall away. |

Gordon goes for a two tyre stop. As did Newman I think.

Kyle Busch kind of running the rule up front.
42 is struggling for pace now, laptimes all over the place. |

I predict Jeff Gordon will win, with Jimmie Johnson second.

With any luck that will happen.
Looks like Jeff is in a spot of bother here though. And Jimmie has got the caution he needed to get to the end on gas. Ominous. |

Hopefully Kenseth can hold on here... but Johnson is running some pace.
Come on Jeff, make up some places! |

Go Matt! (never thought I'd say that)
Loved how he held the slide and then passed JJ there |

Dammit, Matt Kenseth gave up. Just said it on the radio, gave him the spot.
