WTCC at Nuerburgring Nordschleife?
At www.autosport.nl a journalist says that there are some people trying to organiza a WTCC-race in the weekend of the 24h-race. Although the plans are still very immature, he has some positive reactions from Priaulx, Coronel and Mario Thiessen.
He points out that S2000-cars are able to race on the track, proven by several S2000-cars joining the 24h-race, and the ADAC-procarserie witch succesfully races in the same weekend. I think it's a good plan. Maybe they should make it a 200km race for double points, because otherwise the races would only last 2 laps. |

I would love to see this happen. Just think of the atmosphere, and a race on the Nordschleife would also draw a lot of extra participants I'd say.

I don't think this will happen.
But, who knows, it could be really great. |

If this actually happens it would be fantastic. Theres no real reason why it shoudnt happen either providing everything is planned out properly. It should certainly make for some fantastic racing anyway.

The front wheel drive teams won't be happy with it - guaranteed.
I'm sure BMW would love the prospect of a long race though. |

Old ETCC races (and 1987 WTCC) were 500km long and the teams used two or three drivers per car. I don´t see your point saying two for races over 1.000km. |

It's a nice prospect for sure, but still, some safety updates would be required from the Nordschleife track.

Indeed the cars in the Nurburgring 24 hours are far quicker than a WTCC car, and seeing as they dont normally have any safety issues I dont see why the WTCC should be any different.

There are cars racing witch are faster than the WTCC-cars are. But that doesn't mean that racing S2000-cars at the ring is safe, it only means that the VLN-drivers are apparently willing to take some more risk than may be found acceptable in the WTCC. And if you see the driving in WTCC, people might get hurt at the ring. It really is a dangerous track.
The question is: is it worth the risk. I say yes, especially since they also let the drivers loose on places like Porto (chicane), Curitiba (last corner) or Puebla (loose tarmac and some concrete walls) |

Is the Nuernburgring FIA-classified? Well, they do licence the Monte-Carlo circuit for F1, so they are aparently willing to make some special arrangements for special circuits.

Is the Nurburgring 24 televised though? It would be nigh on impossible to effectively televise or marshall, especially if some of the support events go on the ring. Last edited by duke_toaster; 27 Nov 2007 at 16:45. |

yes there is live television. there are parts without cameras obviously, but for them they have onboard cameras or the helicopter. it was the same with the last dtm race on the nordschleife.

The question is: does anyone want to see a race about 2 laps ?????
The distance for WTCC should be spread to 100 or more km... Today, german magazine "Motorsport aktuell" announces, that this rumour about the Nurburgring is not true...they call it a internet rumour without any evidence... |

There is a lot of spectator safety fencing going up around the Nurburgring lately, one can only assume that this might aid any future FIA event.
