Helio -- Racing's New Star
Since his win at Indy, Helio's been all over the tube in the States. His latest appearance -- on the Regis Philbin show.
Handsome, warm, funny -- utterly charming. The audience loved him. Couldn't imagine a better ambassador for the sport. |

It's impossible not to love Helio, isn't it? There aren't many like him. Though I think Johnny Herbert would (will?) go down well with the American public as well.
(By the way, hello from me - this is my first post here. Thanks to domaza for letting me know about this place.) |

Welcome Laagri.
I do like the public splash that helio has helped to generate for CART and Indy car cacing in general. Its nothing but good for the racing. |

Helio!
I loved Helio Castro-Neves when he joined CART with HOGAN racing... He was then the second best for me (Dario was and will be the 1st one for me). Now I don't like him so much anymore - I actually don't know why... Maybe these huge celebrations and "crazy" interviews aren't for me. But this guy is proparly good for CART - best advertise for racing serie is their drivers and CART has got best ones - use them CART to promote your product!

I like Helio because he loves racing - and because he races for love of racing, not for love of money. He's not political (when you read the post-Indy press conference transcript, he adroitly sidestepped all Champ Cars v. Indy questions without appearing to give it a lot of thought) and he doesn't blame other people for his misfortunes, nor hog the glory of his good fortunes... he realises and expresses clearly that we fans are also part of the reason he's celebrating, and he shares that experience with us without being self-conscious at all.
Besides, anyone who can talk Roger Penske into climbing a fence is clearly headed for the top! (And not just of the fence, either.) |

Ah, but Penske said that he WOULD climb the fence with Helio - just "after dark so nobody will see me"! He said that in the post-Indy press conference.
And if you look carefully at the pictures of the Penske Climbing Club, you will see another guy in a red driving suit as well. |

so long as f1 doesn't get a hold of him, he'll be a fantastic ambassador. watching him win at indy brought a tear to the eye of even the sourest old bat in the house (ie me), and not because of the history and all that underpants. because *he's* great. so enthusiastic and pleased to win.
