2008 Aussie F1GP - Who's where??

Marshal Newsletter #4 has arrived with our post allocations for the 2008 Australian Formula One Grand Prix.

So where are we all working this year??

I'm working at 13L on the Flag team.

I was about to fire off a PM to you PVDA, to ask you if you had got the newsletter yet. But, yet again, you have beaten me to the punch. When I go home tomorrow I will check, and post the result. I do know that I am a track Marshall however, not high enough grade to be a GPflaggie.

Mate it took me 11 GP's to move from the Track to Flag team (also involved the GP moving to Albert Park from Adelaide.

I'm one of the many minus ones, that is those who've done all but one F1 GP (I missed the first one in 1985).

Oh well, at least it gives me something to aim for, and who knows, there may be an agreement between Bernie and the AGPC that extends Melbournes hosting rights for another 11 years. Until the 2011 season starts, with or without Albert Park, we won't know.

Back on track now, I'm in team 27 (Track Marshals) at a position in Sector 9, sector chief is Andrew Brand.

You're going to be a busy boy Mick, that's one of the busier corners for cars falling off or crashing at Albert Park.

I was just looking at the track on f1.com and I saw where I'm gonna be playing, looks like a bit of fun, and a good 1st F1 experience. No rest for the wicked I guess.

Just a quick question, are we provided with hearing protection, or is it byo?

The AGPC provides those foam ear plugs each day but if you prefer the ear muff type BYO.

Also, although some gloves are usually in the equipment wheelie bin, you might want to invest in a pair of Riggers gloves, mechanics style gloves don't give enough protection from hot exhausts.

As a Trackie you are the arms and legs for that part of the track so anything which needs to be sorted we try to do in house as much as possible.

I do have riggers gloves already, one of the pros of working at Winton, you have to be prepared to do anything when you rock up for the day.

Only 2 weeks to go!!!!

That could be that here in Aus, we have a governing body that looks after us

There are a couple of others on here who are going but they don't tend to say where they will be publicly for fear of being outed

Although I hear the point has been pushed back up towards 9 so we're not as close to race line.

Passing the point, top end of 4th gear....

Great, I'll see you there then.

Just a quick question, about what time do the trains/trams going to albert park start running? I have looked in the info given to us, but they just show the route, no times.

Do you mean from the City? From memory it's about 6am, there was one year when I was parking in the city (I have a carparking space at work), and tramming it back to the track and I was getting there with heaps of time.

you probably want the number 16 tram if you're getting it at flinders street:

Yeah, thats the one I want. I live right next to the Glenferrie station, so I'm thinking catch a train into the city, then tram out to the track, just wanted to be sure they started in time for sign on.

I got moved today, and promoted. Can't remember where I am, but I'm now a flaggie Going by my reckoning Knakkers, that means I beat you to the F1 flags by 11 years
