What to call the new Honda Team?
Assuming the management buy out actually happens What should they call the new team?
I think I may have come up with a Corker... ... TYRELL To me this is right on so many levels Not least of which is that the Honda Team was born out of the Independant Tyrell team so now as an independant again what better name. It would be an excellent tribute to the late great man who founded the operation also it would send out the right message of intent as Tyrell often punched above their weight using clever design rather than manufacturer cash Discuss |

I presume the new owner(s) would want a say in it. Personally I wouldn't like to see the Tyrell name re-used. Let sleeping dogs lie.

I can see how things would go neatly full circle if it were to be Tyrrell. However, it would be a bit like all these suggestions over the years of bringing back the Lotus name. It wouldn't really be them, so it would be superficial.
Wasn't the team that was to come from the ashes of Arrows due to be called Phoenix? I remember the name Phoenix Consortium being mentioned, but I don't know whether they actually planned to call the team by that name. |

If Ken Tyrrell's family agreed with it then I would call it that. Would be great considering its where Honda came from via BAR and would be fitting for a new British independent team.

Some days ago I was chatting to a friend and asked him, how on earth you can be Honda fan? They're making nice cars, but they make everyday cars that are driven by anyone, so they're simply not exclusive as F1 is. Neither do any of these manufacturers have much input or abilities to win in F1 w/o the specialist teams. It's not Honda, it's Tyrrell, it's not Mercedes - it's McLaren-Ilmor! Their everyday cars are designed mostly in Japan - these cars are all designed by Europeans in Brackley with a small bunch of Japanese designers making live difficult for them from Japan.
All these everyday car brands just don't have exclusivity. They're not elite, they don't have enigma, there are bad jokes for all of them! I can be a fan only of a mystical team, not my neighbours soapbox! I want F1 with March, with Tyrrell, with Lotus - these brands are tons more prestige than Mercedes who sell trucks, or BMW who sell to punks doing illegal "racing". Sorry to all of them, but everyone has Merc, BMW, Toyota, Renault and so on. I want to see these magical brands that I don't see everyday. They've poured a lot of cash into F1, but they had because they got much in return from F1's image of exclusivity. I just hope, one day those brands would be gone racing local DTM, JGTC or whatever local races and F1 would be populated by mystic teams. There's nothing mystic about Mercedes, sorry! I know their history, but they sell ugly huge tracks and on top of that, all of them think they're somehow prestige!?!? Just look at the SLR, it's McLaren designed and Mercedes decided to put their ugly face from the tracks and sell it as Mercedes! Man, anyone who knows something about cars would give $100k more if it was McLaren Roadster and if you look at the depreciation of these brands and their hi-end models, compare it to brands like Ferrari, Bugatti or Lotus - it's a joke! So, to answer the question - I prefer Carlin if Trevor Carlin runs the team to any chips, car, cola, pc or wc paper manufacturer brand. |

Wasn't the Pheonix Consortium a group of people somehow involved in wanting to take over MG Rover? I doubt if the same people would want to get involved with F1.
