ANGLESEY SEASON OPENER CANNED

SORRY FOLKS, YOU'LL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL APRIL TO GET COLD AND WET THIS YEAR.

At 1600 today, the decision was taken to cancel the Season Opener race meeting scheduled to take place at Anglesey Circuit on Sunday 15th March 2009.

The total entry received to date was only 5 cars :
Formula Ford 3
Single Seater Formula Libre zero
Open Sports Cars zero
NW Libre Sports Saloons 1
Caterhams 1

We know that there would have been a few more to come, but the signs were not looking good to achieve a total entry that wouldn't have resulted in a large financial loss, as it costs about five thousand pounds to put on a club race meeting, no matter how few, or many, competitors there are.

Hopefully this won't be a sign of things to come for racing both Historic and contemporary this year.

The Test Day on Saturday 14th March will still be happening, as will one a week earlier on Sat 7th March.

sad news indeed. anglesey is always a crackin way to start the year. lets just hope its not a sign of things to come this year. on a plus side it means i dont have to annoy the boss by crying in work about how they never give me time off.

Sad

Sad news indeed for the season opener. If the testing is still going on lets hope there are more cars than one per session throughout the whole day.

Sad news indeed.

I hadn't entered yet but I was planning to make the trip for the weekend. I wouldn't have been surprised if there were lots more (than a few) like me who couldn't commit 100% and enter (seeing as my car isn't yet back together) but were intending to enter within the week or so.

It is very earlier to *commit* to much...

That's a real shame. At least the chance of snow is less in April!

kartingdad has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
What a pity its cancelled. It is ideal as a season opening shakedown. There's nothing on the ff thread, so maybe few people knew about it.
We'll have to come up with something else then. Hope I can get my depo back on the accomm....

I knew an email was sent, but aafter that it went very quiet - read nothing.

Is it cast in tablets of stone or if we can rev up enough drivers can it be resurrected?

Aw FFS! I was really looking forward to this one too! Snett may be an option but I really dont feel like camping that time of year.

Why ever not - a lovely warm and sunny March weekend, in the bootiful Norfolk countryside, with plently of good company on the campsite and the usual fantastic racing with 750MC !!

What more could anyone want to start the new season?? You'll certainly be made welcome. Hope to see you there.

Shame to lose this meeting, but a big thumbs up for cancelling in plenty of time. Hope this is'nt the start of a trend but if it is I wonder if other organising clubs will do everyone a favour and can races and whole race meetings if the entries are low?

Just had my test day for the Spring Sprint at Goodwood cancelled. They're running 2 days but the only date I can manage only attracted me & 1 other. Ominous.

I am afraid I think it very much is a sign of the times, I seriously think we are in for a rocky time ahead in this sport, I for one am having to cut back and who knows maybe forced to stop completely before this pans out.

I was due to be on the rescue unit at Longcross the other weekend. I recived an e- mail from the crew chief advising the event had been cancled due to lack of entries. I also believe but cant confirm sunseeker is down too. A tough year indeed for all in motorsport. Not sure how it is going to pan out.

Terry,
I hope you haven't forgotten already, what happened on the Sunday of this meeting last year.
I haven't decided yet whether to bring the tent myself, or head for a B&B, but I WILL be there.

I do think that there will be quiet a few meetings, this year, with small grids.
IMHO, if we marshals start withdrawing and the meetings get canned because of this, we will only add to the problem. I suggest we grit our teeth and bear with it, for the time being.

Recent pre-season test session @ Knockhill was cancelled at the last minute due to lack of cars. Another session is planned for 1st March. We'll have to see what happens.

After a shaky start, Sunseeker entries are looking reasonable: now up to 71. Not up to the numbers of previous years but pretty good considering.

That's been rescheduled to use the date which became available when the race meeting was cancelled.

A nice alternative on the 14th/15th is the Robin Hood rally useing sherwood forest, the saturday is in the evening, rallying in the dark in the trees, magic!
