Davidson named as Brawn GP test driver
http://www.grandprix.com/ns/ns21280.html
Good news for Ant (and for Brawn, IMO) - although I'm guessing that given the testing ban, this will mean that he'll be the "simulator driver" for the year... |

Tremendous news.
Perhaps it could even lead to a race drive for '09. He's a good man to have behind the wheel during a testing ban. |

Should have stuck him in instead of Rubens.

Davidson represents a sensible choice given his past experiences means that he would be able to step into the car with short notice and deliver good results. One would hope that such a role could lead to him being given a race seat in 2010. Afterall a line up of Button and Davidson would surely be very competitive.

Should have stuck him in instead of Button !
2009 is a watershed for the two Brawn drivers. If Barrichello trounces Button again this year, then Button's career is over. If Button makes mince meat of Barrichello from the start... then Ant will probably end up in the Brazilian's seat mid season. All in all, this is a very positive development for Ant... he's deserving of a race seat and let's hope he gets it. |

As others have already said, he's a good driver that deserves a race seat. Fingers crossed for 2010.

Is this the same as being third driver?
In any case, it's good news. Nice to see him keep a foot in the door. And, who knows, perhaps a drive could come out of it down the line. Thumbs up! |

I'd agree with that, and great to see Davidson still involved in what ever capacity. |

Fantastic news! Always loved his attitude and think hes a very good driver who has suffered perhaps because he isn't as good for sponsors as some other drivers.

It's nice that he is still hanging on to an F1 seat, but there is a very definite sense of deja-vu here.
I would like to see him racing again, but you just know he will be completely overlooked as usual. |

Hmmm...has he ever said anything that could be deemed controversial or potentially upsetting to sponsors or anyone high up?
Not really, he has just inexplicably got lost in the wilderness like so many others. |

As much as I like Ant, I think the problem could be that he doesn't offer the media as much a narrative as many other drivers do. It's hard to peg him as anything, which makes it hard for the media to sell him. Without excitement, no backing. And getting in on merit alone borders on the impossible today.

Listening to Ant right now as I watch live practice. Apparently 18 degrees is 'bloody cold!'

I havent seen anything to suggest that he has a seat. I have however seen that they have retained Wurz......... Not looking so good for Ant.
Like his commentry though. |

I assume this is the team third driver, who would step in if a driver fell ill ?
Since Ant is at the races for the BBC anyway it's a sensible, and cheap, option. I doubt this will make him more likely to move ahead of Senna in the Brawn race seat for 2010/11. |
