Not quite as intended
This next effort was meant to be in response to not being able to run more than one layout at a time on the multi-layout stuff I've done.
Well, it didn't quite work out that way, as I've managed to use a small section of track for both circuits. How did I manage that, well it's a cross-over of course, and I couldn't quite get two separate circuits out of the design. The two are quite opposite in nature, the South circuit which has the main pit complex is a bit angular with 2 big stops, whilst the North circuit is actually so flowing and curvy that there isn't really an overtaking place on it, in fact the small pit only just fits. Another opposite I hadn't actually realised until I had finished it and was checking the dimensions, the North and South circuits go in opposite directions The biggest feature of the circuit is it's 1.083km straight. Though it's full length is only used when running the combined circuit. South Circuit 2.863 km (1.79 miles) Anti-Clockwise. North Circuit 2.895 km (1.81 miles) Clockwise Combined Circuit 5.496 km (3.44 miles) Anti Clockwise figure 8. As usual Comment, criticism and possible edits are welcom |

I especially like the southern part - the first two turns are just superb, simple though they might look.
What's that cool arc above the bridge? bio |

The arch over the bridge was supposed to be part of the type of bridge. Essentially Stingers down from the arch supporting the center of the bridge. Like this one in Glasgow, not too far away from where I'm sitting.
In the end it would have been a lot of detail work that probably wouldn't have shown up all that well. Last edited by ScotsBrutesFan; 25 Nov 2009 at 13:49. |

What did you use to design that?

My favoured track variation is not one of the 3 that you offer, but with minor modifications, it should be possible.
It is based on the North Circuit, so it runs clockwise, but it then, it uses the bridge from the Combined Circuit and at the end of the straight leading across the bridge, it would turn sharply right at a hairpin bend. Then, the reconnecting part of the Southern Circuit would be run in opposite direction for a few turns until the left turn that closes the loop in clockwise direction with the North Circuit. I'd like to suggest offering this loop as well. How long would it be? |

I suppose you could pave that short stretch double wide (a la Monza), and have some temporary barriers put up down the middle to run the two variants simultaneously.

There is tutorials on the sketchup website, never used them myself.
Some of the things I do could probably be done easier and with a lot less aggrivation if I did look at the instructions....But hey I'm and engineer |
