Official: Canadian GP returns to F1 calendar
It gets a five year deal for the race.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80358 Edit. Didn't spot that Jab had bet me to this in the 'calendar' thread. Last edited by Marbot; 28 Nov 2009 at 00:44. |

Interesting figures mentioned in the Autosport report:
"Quebec minister of finance and minister responsible for the Montreal region, Raymond Bachand said: "For Quebec, this event by itself results in annual tax revenues of more than $10 million (£5.5 million), for a $4 million (£2.2 million) investment, minus revenues from ticket sales." Now how come that Brown / Darling et al. can't see that investing money to assist Silverstone will bring tax benefits? |

Great news. Far better than any of the tilkedrome's Hopefully they'll have the tarmac sorted next year, if not there's plenty of premium tarmac specialists round my end they can borrow

as this race is back i wonder if BBC has learnt its lesson from Brazil and make sure this goes to BBC2 not BBC 1 for qualfying on June 12 (+ i just given you a head ups, there might also be football on due to World Cup therefore you might even have to hit the red button)

News reports I read said it required $15M (CDN) a year in public funding although thats spread through 3 levels of government.

Just one race in the Americas and none in Africa was somehow a joke for a World Championship. I'm glad for North American racing fans.

Great to have it back. I wonder if there are any other countries in that part of the world that could hold a GP...

Any wagers yet on how the brakes hold up at Montreal next year?

This N.A. fan is thrilled to have it back on this continent. Still opposite LeMans though. Dang it.

This is good news for F1, something that is sorely needed.

I popped by the circuit in 2008 when I was in the city (got thrown off the track as the security dudes objected to my speed through the chicane... but that's another thread ) and decided then that I wanted to go to the race in 2009. Obviously couldn't (duh!) but am severely tempted to go next year. Especially as the race will be on my birthday weekend... reckon my folks will front up for ticket cost?

I say "though" because I don't particularly want brake failures because they can end quite nastily
