Mumbai International Raceway
I haven't posted on this forum for ages but I thought as I'd done another track I might as well post it.
This is Mumbai International Raceway, developed as a rival to the Tilke Delhi circuit which doesn't seem to be the most inspiring offering ever created. It's around 6km for the main track, 17 corners, but some of them are quick ones & it's clockwise. The main straight is just over 1km long & the gravel trap runs under the T1 grandstand, a la Abu Dhabi. There is a second pit lane for when the main straight isn't being used & there are quite a few options for shorter circuits as well as a roval. The track hotel is next to the track & has two 2 story bridges leading over to the infield & paddock. The bridges end inside the Mumbai Circuit Tower which contains all of the circuit facilities, includin the hospital & media centre as well as offices for motorsport related businesses. Both the pitlane buildings & the tower have green roofs...racing doing it's environmentally friendly thing! The tower is 50 stories, 250 meters tall, with a public skybar to get views of the whole track on the 50th floor-a true Tilke-esque circuit feature! This is also my first attempt at a sketchup circuit..... ^^^^The hotel bridges ^^^^The T1 Grandstand ^^^^The view from inside the Start/Finish Straight grandstand ^^^^The view from the Tower skybar Opinions welcome as always. |

Wow! very cool and ambitious. Sorta similar to Sakhir but that's not a problem, Sakhir is probably Tilke's best track. I like the tower aswell.
You and I both seem to be trying to top what Tilke has done. I am working on a track that has similar ambitions and scale to this one. Good job and keep up the good work. I'd like to see more tracks from you. |

Thank you both...and if some Mod could delete the other thread of the same name. I seem to have accidentally made 2 threads on the same track. Oops....

Beautiful. I see there's three options for the full track. One for every major event maybe? The best layout would be for me the one that turns into the infield at the very latest possebility, you'dd have those two flat out turns at the top followed by a tricky slow corner which breaks the ritme and makes it even harder followed by a slow bit where you have to suddenly adapt. The roval doesn't seem to me as a good adition but I wouldn't say it's bad. Althogether it's a great design with only a few Tilke things and those are only the good ones not concerned with the actual track.

Nice design and presentation.
I have to say major kudos on making 4 near parallel straights work without it being an obvious hairpin fest. I like the fact that there are 2 short layouts that could be used for "race school" or driver education events simultaneously in addition to the roval that given the length of it's straights wouldn't be practical for such things. I think my favourite layout would actually be the one that comprises the two short circuits. It would use the top straight and follow around to take the hairpin instead of the GP penultimate corner. From there it would follow the infield and return to the GP circuit at it's T3 and round onto it's top straight again. It doesn't have a pitlane, but would leave the roval free for another event. |

Wow!!! This is super impressive. I love the sheer amount of options we have going on here. I'm having fun just running around (not literally..!) different routes and seeing what they create.
Has anyone ever considered the options of trying to run an 'on-board' lap on some of these..? Selby |

There is a way of doing so, but it's long winded and involved converting a few things in Blender.

I'm sorry, but it looks too Tilke for my taste.
There are a number of nice elements in there; there's something not quite right in how they've all come to fit together. Also, all those different layouts make it a bit difficult to pick out any one particular circuit configuration. It does look very well done on SketchUp though. |
