BRSCC Cadwell Park June 5th/6th

The following is a statement from Ford Racing UK

"
Ford Racing UK's Kevin Shortis celebrates 21 years in motorsport.

The BRSCC Cadwell Park meeting on 5th and 6th June will be a cause of celebration for Kevin Shortis who will mark this occasion for 21 years in race co-ordination.

It was a chilly Cadwell Park in 1990, that saw the Ford Saloon Car Championship make its maiden appearance and a naive younger Kevin standing wondering what he had got himself into. Since then, many motorsport championships later, Kevin still feels passionate for motorsport and continues to administer existing championships whilst preparing the world for the new Fiesta Junior Championship in 2011.

Those intervening years have seen Kevin take on many roles. With Ford's Boreham Motorsport facility where he played a leading role in setting up the Ford Rally Ka Championship and maintaining a rally bonus scheme, to working with the BRSCC, BRDC and BARC to help run the highly acclaimed Best of British Motorsport package, a blueprint for successful racing packages that are seen today. A long stint with the Ford RS Owners' Club from 1985 - 1992 as company secretary gave him close association with many areas in Ford.

Kevin is more known for his total commitment to all things FORD and his unwavering support for the marque has been recognised both within and outside the Ford Motor Company. The Ford Saloon Car Championship, the Ford Fiesta Championship and the Ford XR Challenge are familiar names.

To mark this special occasion and to celebrate the landmark, Kevin invites all competitors from any of his championships to a social gathering at Cadwell Park to be held on the Saturday evening (5th June) to start around 6.30 pm. He will provide liquid refreshment and music at the Ford Racing UK race centre. A special welcome will also be extended to all marshals and officials too.

Commentating today Kevin said, ' It has been my good fortune and it has been an honour and privilige to have met so many fantastic people. Motorsport in the UK is very strong and well supported and I hope my small contribution has enabled it to continue to grow and be successful. My thanks go to all the competitors and sponsors who over 21 years have been so supportive and instrumental in helping us all achieve such success. I would also like to thank the British Racing & SPorts Car Club and the MSA for their help over those 21 years. The drinks are on me at Cadwell Park'.

Ford Racing UK"

I am sure there will be a few marshals who have enjoyed many races organised by Kevin, and would like to be a part of this celebration. I would like to offer my thanks for the generous invite.

If you have not yet volunteered and would like to please contact myself or David Owen.

I remember the last time we where on post together, the look on the driver's eyes when they came around again and found the floppy's back in place, that they'd taken out the lap before.

Ah yes, it was my fault as IO that someone forgot Alfa's are front wheel drive while pushing them out of the mud.

Isn't it time our chief marshall had a word with Jonathon Palmer about better campsite facilities including hook up for marshalls who are after all volunteers. Is this one of the reasons Cadwell often suffers from lack of marshals ????

doubt it, its more to do with not having a large city in close vicinity and somehow i doubt JP can influence that

I can't think of any circuit, MSV or otherwise, that has electrical hookups, other than if you get lucky at Anglesey and one of the paddock ones is spare.

Silverstone does on copes outside camp site if you get there early.
I think this question was put to JP last year when he ask what improvements we wanted, but we'll have to wait and see

3rd go at BEING, or 3rd go AT?

Completely off that topic and back to this one tho, what route do you take to Cadwell? My tank gets severely stretched (1.8 motor with only a 42l tank) so if anyone has any tips other than m62 / m180 / a18 / a16 i'd be glad to hear them

Probably a bit late to be replying, but I don't think there are too many alternatives, and the mileage is much the same, for me 140 - 150 dependent on whether I go M180, A15 down to Caenby corner, then cut across country via Market Rasen (if I want a play) - or M180, A180 then A15....

Filled my 164 with 60+ litres pf LPG today, so that should do me.....

Pity we didn't get sorted earlier, we could have pooled the trip....

If you see a maroon 164 fly past yopu, beep your horn to wake me up.....

Too late now - ask me next time you see me & I'll tell you a variation on that using one of the best driving roads in Lincolnshire. (Caistor High Road for those who know it!)
