Audi R8 GT2
Murphy says that a famous team is setting up shop in Braselton, GA to run a Audi R8 GT2 in ALMS? Could it be Joest?

Actually he said a 'familiar' team. Basically all famous teams are familiar, but not all familiar teams famous.

Joest !! are you serious ? next year a new LMP from Audi and the ILMC is becoming bigger... and about this speculated R8 GT2, I don't think its a factory built car, maybe a privateer effort, just as Doran with Ford or Primetime with the Viper CC

I'm guessing it isn't somebody with Audi experience. But rather somebody with GT experience. Krohn is based out of Braselton aren't that? But seriously if the rumour is a familiar team then I would guess it is somebody who has raced in the ALMS previously.

Hmm, maybe a team with Kettler sitting on top of the box?

Could the AF Corse (think thats the team) appearance with Risi at Utah be a sign Krohn is moving on to their own project? If he leaves GA and moves to a true GT2 program that could be a good, proper team effort. Would be a good team to add to the PLM roster for my first race trip.

1st Joest and now AF Corse looool, AF Corse = Ferrari and racing in Europe, why moving to USA for a privateer Audi and leaving LMS and heavily factory support from Maranello

Problem with Krohn is: They already have a shop at Rd. Atlanta, so no need to set one up.

I would put my money on the R8 GT3 being allowed in the GTC class. Audi Sport is very busy next year with building a completely new DTM car (R17) and a LMP1 car with KERS (R18). I doubt they have the resources to build a GT2 car at the same time. |

If Audi were preparing a GT programme, familiar names were involved, and real estate had already been purchased, surely the potential for an LMP return (even if only minimal/occasional) becomes slightly more likely? Obviously it's subject to the credibility of many (yet to be confirmed) rumours, but it's a nice thought. Quote:

That would be nice to have a proven team manager involved with the program. If there is indeed a program in the works for a gt2 R8 based in Georgia I wonder how much involvement the Audi factory will have?

When Ullrich first mentioned this some time back on Midweek Motorsports it was with regards to the GT3 R8 LMS.
That being said there is now only one ACO GT class so Audi may think it's time to introduce a GT2 version of the model. There comes a point where GT3 teams are going to question paying GT2 money for cars that can't compete at ACO races like Le Mans. Last edited by JAG; 28 Jun 2010 at 20:41. |

I meant if they (and i think I had the wrong team in mind anyway) were working with Risi does that mean Krohn has another project taking up his time and so has moved on from working with Risi to his own thing. Did not mean at all the AF Corse or any Ferrari team would be moving away from them, especially with a new car coming out next season.

Hey how about an Audi R8 V10 gt car. The sound of that thing with a Lamborghini lump in the back must sound epic!
