7 Super Question
Hi,
This is one hardly asked question. No doubt that the original Caterham 7 is a great performer. But how does a top spec. Caterham model (say like the Superlight 500) compare with other high quality re-makes and among other european copies like: -Westfields, Raw Strikers and Dax Rush from UK -Vonkerdort from Netherland -Irmischer7 from Germany in terms of driving, cornering and handling? indeed. straight line speed is not the question?? Cheers, |

The proof of the pudding is really how they perform in circuit racing. For many years the Caterham used to be head and shoulders above the rest, but in recent times Westfield have pretty much closed the gap and there's little to choose between them. I think Dax have closed the gap but their trick front suspension hasn't proved itself a major advantage on the track. Don't know much about the other makes I'm afraid, but as you don't see them much on race entry lists in the uk, I assume they aren't as good.

Late reply but...
Caterhams have had a lot of development and there is a lot of knowledge out there to draw on. Westfield now have quite a few years expeience also and that makes a difference. The others you mentioned cannot draw on the sam elevel of expertise, so will generally be lesser performers unless you really put the set up time in - and why bother when the others have already done it? Locosts are popular (I've got one but haven't raced in a few years), but they are HP limited, so not really comparable. However, the main issue would be, I woudl think, that there are mostly 7 specific series - Caterhams, Westfields, Locosts etc, so the others don't really get a look in. |
