Formula 1 Drivers: please start your text here
Is there a ten-tenths member present that has qualified or raced a Formula 1 car in competition? I ask out of respect for your ability in driving at the zenith of motor racing achievement. It would be great if you would lead this thread by sharing something that created great interest and an insight into how an F1 driver thinks! Please lead on...

I've driven at my local kart track. First day it opened I went down there was doing a few laps and pulled over and the manager comes over to me and says "Oi, mate! No professionals." I said I'm not a professional. He said "Well, you should be mate with moves like that you could be the best in Britain". I said, "No thanks I'm making **** loads from computers".

There was an ex F1 driver posting about 4 years ago, had an interest in FR3.5 if memory serves me correctly. Haven't seen him post for a long time though.....

A few BOSS GP / EuroBOSS drivers are here.
But since BOSS went all Tony George, they mostly have gone quiet. |

A great idea this! Legendary Aussie open wheel champ Kevin Bartlett is actively involved with another forum site discussing his times in F5000 & where certain cars ended up etc. Great to hear from the 'guy in the seat'.
Personally, I can say that I have competed at 2 Grands Prix!!........in the 250 Superkart support races at the Adelaide GPs of 93 & 94. Was great to go past the 100 brake marker on Brabham Straight still hard on the gas......awesome feeling! One of my prized possessions is the 1993 official program, with my name in one entry list & another entry list featuring names such as Berger, Patrese, Hakkinen, Schumacher & most of all, Ayrton Senna. . One of our mods is, in fact, Nigel Mansell.
I won't give too much away, but his username ends in 43 and starts with Adam. He pretends to like Prost for cover. Last edited by Knowlesy; 24 Mar 2011 at 09:46. |

Marbot (born 28 October 1930) is a British sports entrepreneur,[1] as president and CEO of Formula One Management and Formula One Administration and through his part-ownership of Alpha Prema, the parent company of the Formula One Group of companies. As such, he is generally considered the primary authority in Formula One racing. He is most commonly addressed in tabloid journalism as "F1 Supremo". His early involvement in the sport was as a competitor and then as a manager of drivers Stuart Lewis-Evans and Jochen Rindt. In 1972 he bought the Brabham team, which he ran for fifteen years.[2] As a team owner he became a member of the Formula One Constructors Association. His control of the sport, which grew from his pioneering the sale of television rights in the late 1970s, is chiefly financial, but under the terms of the Concorde Agreement he and his companies also manage the administration, setup and logistics of each Formula One Grand Prix. Marbot himself attempted to compete in two Grand Prix races during the 1958 season but failed to qualify for either of them.
He is also the owner of Queens Park Rangers Football Club. |

Here's a bit of tyre info from that period. 1950 – 1959 Pirelli were the pioneers of early racing tyre technology and their belted ‘Cinturato’ design in the fifties was revolutionary. They supplied tyres to the big Italian teams of Alfa Romeo, Ferrari and Maserati, and won every F1 race except for one in the first four years of the World Championship. It wasn’t until Mercedes joined the series in 1954 with Continental that Pirelli’s dominance was challenged. By the end of the fifties, Alfa Romeo and Maserati had withdrawn from Grand Prix racing, and Ferrari switched to Englebert tyres, leaving Pirelli with no presence in the sport. Not forgetting: "Pirelli is responsible for the basic tyre design used by almost every type of racing car today having invented low profile and wide radial tyres." Hats off Marbot!
Not forgetting: "Pirelli is responsible for the basic tyre design used by almost every type of racing car today having invented low profile and wide radial tyres." AFAIK radial tyres were introduced to GP racing in the mid 70s by Michelin and Renault with the Goodyear technicians swearing blind they could never be made to work. Anybody that calls the balloons on F1s low profile has just got to be joking. I posted a query here on 10/10ths as to whether anybody else had noticed the standing wave type shimmy generated within the front Bridgestone tyres when the cars attacked the curbs. The remark was lost in the invective against Schumacher, but I am still fascinated by the site of a tyre wobbling like a deflated tyre carcass - on an F1 car! I still believe that low profile tyres would make the cars significantly faster. |

As the early morning dew twinkled on the trackside grass, the first rasp of the gutsy V10 shattered the peace and sent the local birds flying from the trees. Slowly peeling the formidable beast out of the garage, under the watchful gaze of my mechanics, I pushed the accelerator hard. Half an hour later, once said mechanics had managed to re-start it in the pitlane, I pulled away. The tail slid out wide like a recalcitrant schoolgirl but I caught it with a dab of oppo and I was away.
The Andrea Moda S921 is a b*tch, and I spanked it. |

I always admired your handmade Italian loafer style sasetti raceshoes BTW Super hans, it was tragic when they were reposessed.
Of course prior to the advent of Sergio Perez, I was widely regarded as the greatest mexican driver since Pedro Rodriguez. Not bad considering I didn't own a trailer to get to meetings so only drove my AMC Pacer around the streets of Cuidad de Juarez as a Sunday afternoon relaxation. |

I am in fact Mark Webber. And I am growing tired of everyone here saying I'm moving to Renault.
