David Dee - RIP
All, many of you will have known my Dad, David Dee, who passed away after a relatively short illness on Friday lunchtime.

Jon, this is terribly sad news. I've known you both for many years and always enjoyed being on post with Dave. He was a larger than life character in so many ways. My condolences to you and your family.

Thats desperately sad news.
Always enjoyed being on post with DD - tales of aeronautical engineering filled any gaps in the timetable. I learnt lots of interesting stuff - little to do with motor racing. And the bottomless sandwich bag... A character in a world of increasingly anodyne folk. Dave Dee you will be missed. |

Dear Jon
So sorry to hear your sad news. I had so much fun marshalling with your father at Silverstone over the years. He will be very sorely missed. Thinking of you all. John |

Hi Jon very sorry to hear this sad news, When I was told at Mallory yesterday I was truly shocked and upset by this. I have known your dad since I started going to Silverstone in the early 70's. The grand prix will not be the same this year without his regular invite to drop in for a glass of wine. Your dad was a larger than life character who will be sadly missed in both the marshalling and rugby worlds. Although I am not a rugby fan I have had many a conversation with him about London Welsh Rugby club and how proud he was to have helped some of todays stars in their early years. RIP Dave.

Jon,
Both Bill & I send our sympathy. We've both known Dave for more years than we care to remember and he was, simply, a wonderful guy and a great marshal. Fond memories from many times on post or simply chatting over breakfast. We'll miss his presence and his knowledge. Shelagh & Bill |

Dave was observer at my very first meeting a few years ago. He was so friendly, kind & knowledgeable and one of the reasons I got hooked. Such sad news. RIP

Hi Jon,
I enjoyed your Dad's company as a flag marshal on numerous occasions over a period of decades, particularly at Silverstone. He was a smashing fellow and will be missed by myself and all who knew him. Condolences to your family and all of his friends. |

Sad News!
Sad news indeed Jon. Having worked alongside him at Silverstone and Goodwood I have enjoyed his company on many an occasion and I always made a point to have a chat at sign on or in the cafe before going out to post.
My thoughts go out to you |

As Dave used joined our motley crew at Combe from time to time, I must add my sincere condolences to the many expressed above and which show how well liked & respected he was at every circuit he worked .
As we know, he could talk at great length about most subjects ....a lot of them passing above my head ( nothing new there then!!). I will personally miss him as a reliable and experienced Observer and Flaggie adding gravitas to our endless puerile banter & inconsequential chatterings. We are extremely lucky to have Jon as a superb member of our crew as a fleet of foot & mind track marshal or a first class flaggie. Long may that continuity of Dees remain. What will I also miss......the famous Dee cake & the worry that Dave's chair could give up the struggle at any time ( as it did twice before!). Best saying........Goodwood early one windy Friday morning on Fordwater "All present & correct but will someone shut that flipping door!" Moving tributes at Combe & Thruxton to a great character , the sort that do not come along too often. RIP Dave! |
