Ian Lewis should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
MSVR Oulton Park 22 October

There will be one minutes silence to acknowledge the passing of Dan Wheldon who raced at Oulton Park in his early years. I knew him and so did several others who will be present on Saturday. The time of this acknowledgement will be given out at sign on.

Maybe we could do it out on the grid, like we have done before!

Thats what i was thinking. I think we should do it at the beginning of the meeting before all marshals go to post. All standing on the start finish straight. Or even at dinner. would just be nce to have all marshals and possibly racers stood on the start finish straight.

I would think it would be carried out just before racing starts and we are out on post. I will have a word with the commentator so that the public can join in too.

Maybe instead of one minutes silence, we could have one minute of applause which is more usual?

From a logisitical point of view & to save unecessary moving around, we suggest all marshals stand on the track before the start of the 1st race & applaud. Perhaps flaggies could dip their flags as a mark of respect as well. We could encourage spectators & drivers to do the same no matter where they are. I would also recommend that the drift boys do the same as a mark of respect as they are on the rally track on saturday. I could liaise with them if you need me to. Bean!

One Minutes Silence

I have bee in liaison with the Clerks and Chief marshal and here is the plan.

One minutes silence before the start of the first race, which is before lunch.

Everyone will be briefed at sign on. The ladies in race control will hopefully ring round with a reminder. If you would like to applaud after the silence then please make your team aware so that you all can join in. I will ask the commentator to mention it so that the public can join in too.

Thank you

Hi Ian et al

There is a potential problem with the timing of this, as there is drifting running on the rally stage and co ordination with that is difficult. Any objections to doing this at 1pm as that is lunchtime on both circuit and rally stage?

good observation! hopefully this hasnt been overlooked and must have been the first port of call for the senior circuit staff to "postpone" preceedings... either that or there'll be a pretty miffed paying drifting customers

Just being a bit of a softy here and i'm sure it's too late to change anything now but isn't it more fitting to do the minutes silence for a fallen racer whilst there are cars on the grid and the air of expectation as well as respect for a fellow racer

Whenever it is done I will certainly be standing and thinking about a young life cut short by a tragic accident doing a sport Dan loved and we all "work" in and love as well

Those of us in the vicinity of the pit lane / start line at 13;00 all lined up track side opposite race control and observed the silence, with some of the crews joining us

I think that this was the quietest I have ever heard Oulton, apart from the wind blowing leaves around there was no noise

One of the F3 cup cars (Aaron Steele 116) also had RIP Dan Weldon on his car

It was great to see some of the drivers and their crews joining the girls and boys in orange on the start line for this.

Very well respected by all.

Well done everyone.

Awesome days racing today which was topped off with the tribute to Dan Wheldon and also Bernard Baxter of the Classic Formula Ford community was kind of eerie with nothing but the wind blowing leaves. Well done all!!

And what an awesome drive Aaron put in for the second race too. So fast he looked slow. A well deserved winner of the F2 test methinks!

Nice pictures, it was a very touching and emotional moment, very nice to see marshals, racers and crews together to mark the passing of Dan Wheldon.
