thebullet has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
It just gets worse every year, less and less car meetings.

On post with PJ Balls was a laugh a minute but deadly serious when it needed to be. Here he surveys Paul Morton and Stuart Kestenbaum at the hairpin. Note photographer John Gaisford topping up his suntan!!

Does anyone know why this has happened? Looking at that list I may only make the 750mc meeting in October and perhaps the meeting at the end of August.

I think it is a symptom of the fact that a number of clubs reducing the number of events that they are holding in 2012 as a result of the current economic circumstances. I guess Mallory has seen a reduction in meetings as it is seen, in some quarters, as being a less prestigous circuit and therefore a good grid is less certain than other venues.

Semi-related, the Drifting days have been abandoned for 2012, as has the Awesomefest lifestyle event which was very popular in 2011. No official reason has been given for either so far, possibly linked with the reduction in race days?

The 'Awesomefest' website says the cancelation is due to Mallory having to run a reduced number of events due to noise complaints. Can anyone add anything to this? Would be very sad if another great venue is going to get neutered by NIMBYs who should have thought about the circuit when they moved in.

I don't believe the issue is people who didn't think about the circuit when they moved in, but the perceived (rightly or wrongly, I make no comment) 'creep' in usage of the circuit over a period of time. For example, drifting - a more recent innovation - has very different noise characteristics to racing, which I believe isn't a particular concern to most locals providing it is run within established precedents and agreements.

I am told they have run 'unrestricted' noisy testing virtually every Wednesday last year? I know Mike Wilds has tested SEVERAL 70s/80s 3 litre F1 cars there, and both Matra MS670s were out last year...

It MAY be this has upset some locals? I have no data, just pure speculation!

It wasn't just the noise it was also the nuisance caused by the behaviour at the drift event that upset us locals.

We dont only have testing on a Wednesday, you can hire the ciruit on other days as well, Simon Hadfield took a GT40 around a couple of weeks ago and a Kawasaki either Supersport or Superbike was heading there this morning.

I really hope they don't stop the Wednesday testing, I go every wednesday and there is some really great people and cars there. Simon Hadfield and his crew are a fantastic bunch of people and it is really great to catch up with them and the machinery they bring! 2011 was a great year.

You will be suprised what turns up! Didn't expect Mike Wilds on a Wednesday turning up with a Group C Nissan. Nice bloke too.

Go for an upcoming meeting like the week before Silverstone Classic or something

Thanks very much

I waited all day for this to come out, Rob Hall who was testing this machine that had just been restored since its crash in Monaco 2008, it was about to go abroad, didn't want to run it in the wet. It was at the recent Autosport show too.

I couldn't agree more. I only made it 3 or 4 times last year but some of the cars on circuit were just amazing. No doubt they'll double the circuit entry again for 2012 (It was £2 last year )

I can't wait for it all to start again!
