Goodman and Mansell in 2 seater crash!
Nigel Mansell has crashed his two-seater Minardi at Donington today
Former World Champion Nigel Mansell is believed to have walked away uninjured following an accident in the world's first ever two-seater Formula 1 race at Donington. The accident occured at the "Thunder in the Park" day organised by Minardi boss Paul Stoddart. It is thought that Mansell, who was being accompanied by a competition winner, ran into the back of Fernando Alonso who was riding with British TV's Formula 1 reporter Louise Goodman. It is believed that all four walked away from the collision between the two F1x2s. Let's hope someone got a photo of this one!!!! Last edited by LucaBadoer; 21 Aug 2001 at 17:17. |

No doubt Our Nige was taken away on a stretcher moaning that it was the toughest race he'd ever been in.

No- one was hurt though it did look horrific. Nige was signing autographs for an hour after the race. All the participants appeared on the rostrum and the guy who bid $55 000 for the privilege of qualifying and racing with Mansell certainly got his money's worth. Great Minardi celebration and only £7.00!

According to ForzaMinardi.com, the race was stopped after the accident on the penultimate lap, and Paul Stoddart was declared the winner

Aha! Mansell was second, Alonso third and Yoong 4th. Marques retired on Lap 5 with a gearbox problem

But what I want to know is, did Johnny Herbert rush down to pitlane to ask Louise, "So Louise, what happened?"

Johnny was at the ALMS race when that crash happened. I was down taking photos of his car crashed on Turn 2 but did not see Louise anywhere. I guess that's why, because she was crashed in England!

Sorry it's taken sooo long to reply to this topic but I couldn't see for laughing...! Al I really remember of it was Murray screaming over the tannoy, 'it's MANSELL!! He's OFF!!!' And everyone fell about laughing... what a clown! And to do it in front of his boss... let me just say, Mr Stoddart didn't look too impressed as he passed the wreckage...

Yeah I saw the crash on the local news that night. He was at least 7 ft in the air and after that one of the cars caught fire in the pitlane and it took then ages to get the passenger out, and then another care caught fire on the track with Shane Lynch (boyzone) as the passenger

When Shane Lynch was asked prior to the 'race' what he was expecting, he quite happily told the whole circuit that he expected to be '****ting himself' by the first corner!!! Not as much as Louise Goodman who reported how Mansell's car had flown over her head at one point... blimey! |

Well it will give the old dragon something to crow about at the next GP. By the way, your right about those bangles, she must have one arm like a tennis player carrying all that weight around. Sad isn't it?

As for Louise, it will have given her some education, she will be able to ask more incisive questions in the future when someone has crashed out of a race. Good thing from that point of view.
Shame for Nige, but his passenger certainly got the ride of a lifetime, in a relative sense... how much more could you expect? |
