Redholm Raceway
Hello,
I now present my first proper track Redholm Raceway Redholm Raceway, brainchild of Dwight Redholm, was built in 1952 and hosted non-championship grand prix races to late-60's. After Dwight passed away in 1970, the track went downhill. Tracks surface was breaking up, grandstand were about to collapse. Despite the poor condition of the track, during late-70's it was used for 'moonlight races' where young men and women raced against the clock with motorbikes. Later the bikes were joined by street and race cars, there's even a legend that someone raced an old F1 car there. 'Moolight races' became to tragic end in 1981, when there was a fatal crash. In September of 1988, a rich racing enthusiast happened to read a book about the history of grand prix, and was amazed about the track and decided to do something about it. In 1989, Redholm Raceway was bought from Redholm Transport Ltd., the company founded by Dwight Redholm. During the course of 1989 and 1990, the track was repaved, grandstands were demolished and a new one built next to the main straight, pit area was improved as well, and a new parking area was built. The idea was to rebuild the track to use of national and club series, as it was deemed too short for larger races. The track was reopened in 1991, and the first race was run with historic Formula 1 and 2 cars, and these cars were driven by the ones who drove them in the 50's and 60's, including the likes of Chris Amon, Jack Brabham and Jackie Stewart. Next big moment for the track came in 2001, when was announced that starting in 2002, there would be a ERC round at Redholm. The ERC round is still the biggest event that is held in Redholm.
