Assen grading
Hi all,
Just a quick one. Me and a friend having a discussion over a potential Dutch GP in the future (what with there now being a Dutch driver once again). Tried to find out what grading Assen is online but to no avail. Anyone know? Selby |

I know that the Superleague cars raced there a couple of years ago, and Champ cars before that, so it can't be too far away from being up to F1 standards. From what I can remember of it, the track did seem to be quite narrow in places.

According to the FIA listing I found a few weeks back but dated 27/8/12
Assen National Circuit (4.555km) is currently licensed as Grade 2 until the 14/4/2015 Link to FIA PDF What is noticable is the absence of a number of Circuits which I can only presume relates to either licences elapsing at that date, or circuit owners having only applied for National grading (ie MSA in the UK) and not full FIA International Grading. |

Damn, bar a few good tracks the grade 1 list is quite dire... but no surprise since it's basically all the recent F1 tracks.
Quite funny how many of the IndyCar street circuits managed to get grade 2... Wonder what the FIA inspectors thought of Baltimore's railroad tracks! I thought that Nordschleife didn't have enough grading for the WTCC, yet it's grade 3, same as Curitiba, Pau, Macau, Salzburgring or Slovakiaring? |

Assen is a phenomenal track for MotoGP, with a carnival atmosphere the whole weekend, but (unfortunately), I highly doubt that we will see it on the F1 calendar any time soon.
It would be far more worthy of the slot than Bahrain or India, but I won`t go there. |

Don't forget FIA grading refers to the pits, paddock, track, safety and ancillary stuff like race control, steward rooms and so on that are required to run the meeting.
Bernie then adds a mountain of other requirements for hospitality and the Paddock Club. Oh, and his old bugbear signage (although that was only ever a problem at Silverstone)... |
