Apr. 05-07, 2013 IndyCar Series Round 2: Barber
Last year was the first appearance of the DW12, and it fairly comprehensively changed the racing for the Indy Cars at Barber. The 2012 event was actually a reasonably good race, whereas previous races had been quite processional, with passing on the circuit in the old Dallara being very difficult in most cases.
2012: Track- 2.300-mile, 17-turn, permanent, natural terrain road course Distance- 90 laps=207 miles Pole Speed- Helio Castroneves, 1:10.477 (117.485-mph) Race Average- Will Power, 2:01:40 (102.081-mph) 2013: The track configuration and the race length remain as they have since IndyCar started racing at Barber in 2010. From the testing results prior to the season, there are some expectations that the qualifying lap record will fall. This will depend somewhat on the weather/track conditions, but it should be noted that last year's fastest qualifying lap at St. Petersburg was bested just under two weeks ago. This race, as well as the next two, at Long Beach and Sao Paulo, will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network here in the States. |

Vautier led opening practice. However, it looks like the car either stopped, or he put it off course, near the end of the session.

Viso brings out the red with about seven minutes to go in Practice 2. Helio Castroneves currently has the top time at a 1:08.554 (120.781-mph).
The top 11 cars are in the 1:08s. Little change in the scramble at the end. The top remains the same. The top 21 are all within a second. Last edited by Purist; 5 Apr 2013 at 21:33. |

Simona quickest in Practice 3 at a 1:07.407 (122.836-mph). I hope her good form can continue on from St. Petersburg tomorrow.

First qualifying group was faster than the second in Round 1. Dixon dropped the track record to a 1:06.775 (123.999-mph).
Simona and Hinchcliffe, among others, did not reach Round 2. All three Penske cars are in Round 2. Dixon, RHR, Kimball, Sato, Power, and Castroneves move on to Round 3: the Fast Six. Sato excluded from Fast Six; Vautier now in the session. RHR on pole at a 1:07.087 (123.422-mph). Last edited by Purist; 6 Apr 2013 at 16:32. |

There are people on a number of the hillsides. This is a permanent road course, not an oval. A lot of us who go to road races hardly use the bleachers/stands, if we even use them at all. Often the views from the surrounding hills are just as good, if not better, and the hillsides frequently have shade from trees. So, it's just more pleasant to watch from those vantages.
