gregtummer should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Bathurst 12 Hour Benchmark Lap Time Gone!

For next year's 12 Hours of Bathurst, the benchmark qualifying lap time will be removed.

The cars can go flat out!

I saw this posted in John Dagys twitter.

Good. That Simonsen situation this year was an absolute joke and a black stain for sportscar racing. Such regulations brought into question the validity of the Bathurst 12H for me, can't have that sort of thing in any discipline of motorsport.

GT3 teams can choose to obey the rule or not, they can take a fuel and ballast hit in exchange for running flat-out... and a GT3 car running to the minimum laptime still finished 4th in the race.

Fair call.

It's probably common knowledge, although worth restating, regardless: The rule only existed due to regulatory shenanigans on CAMS behalf.

There's a CAMS requirement which dictates that the margin between all competitors qualifying for an event be no greater than 130%.
Instead of being a proactive regulator, CAMS opted to disregard the impracticality of the rule's blanket application to all events.

The restructuring of classes is a move to avoid dealing with the steaming turd that's been dealt by CAMS, rather than a fix for the issue itself.
