Gear-Shifts... What would you rather see?
Say you were in the BTCC now, what type of shifting would you like to use? Sequential or Standard-H-Pattern?

vauxhall, we're talking about BTCC race cars.
As few of us here would have even driven a sequential shift don't expect many votes. |

gotta be sequential.so much easier and gives you no chance of missing a gear.

Well I think i'm one of the lucky ones, I have had the opportunity to drive 2 sequential shift cars, tho not like the mechanical shift-stick ones they use in the BTCC, but electronic Ferrari and Alfa - Romeo boxes.
I drove a F335 with sequential paddles (on racetrack), and the Alfa 156 Selespeed. I will admit that the boxes are pretty cool, but I actually quite like the H-pattern box. |

It would have to be H-Pattern! Much more chance of the driver making a mistake, although Sequentials are quite cool.

H-Patterns make the racing much more fun to watch, at least for me.
I like the old sequential gearboxes that made you lift off the gas and push the clutch down, then pull the gear-lever back. I don't know if any of you remember 1993 but Keith O'Dor had no respect for that and never lifted off the throttle when shifting, resulting in quite a nice sound. |

I like the old sequential, especially the sweet sound of the Beemer years ago, however, after hearing about John B&Q and his 3rd gear 5th gear incident at Donington...H-Pattern for the proddies and sequential for the Tourers!
Get rid of those bloody button change gears though! With their 3 second delay! |

If we want to go back to the stone age then have H patterns. We would be going back in technology to have H patterns, DTM has them, the new ETC regs use them, and how would the manufacturers feel not being able to use the technology they have spent money on developing. Think about what the uproar would be in F1 if they were made to use H patterns.
And as for wanting drivers to use the clutch, over here in Australia the V8s have H patterns, but none, repeat none, of the drivers need to use the clutch, just move the lever into the gates without lifting or using the clutch. |

F1 drivers get it all too bloody easy now. In the sixties at Monaco, they'd have blisters because they changed gear so much.
But it's motorsport and I'll plug it like there's no tomorrow |

Not sure when it was - either the media day or the first round but I was speaking to Phil B. and he showed me his hands - they were raw where the blisters had burst after just a few laps.
He was saying he had to harden his hands up before the next round or he was going to be in trouble. |
