It seems like the thieves didn't know what they were taking as some were replicas.
Mind you I have seen some very tacky looking trophies on the podium some of whom barely survived the celebrations. |

Someone is out there, in a black and white hooped jumper and balaclava, driving a Transit van stuffed with silver Santander logos.

What the hell would you do with a load of replica F1 trophies that everyone now knows are stolen? Melt them down for plastic scrap?

Its terrible that this happened, but the trophies have little intrinsic value outside of Red Bull..

This is a coup-en-scene similar to the Spankgate to Mosley. A kind of reprimand to RBR for something done wrong, according to the intellectual author of the burglary. Unfortunately I don't have clear the suspects in this case. Perhaps Vettel himself?

It'll be a bit of a damp squib for these 'burglars'. Eccelstone has been handing out cheap tat as "trophys" in recent years and they won't get too far if a mysterious entry should suddenly appear on ebay.

Seeing some reports that 20 or so of the trophies have been recovered from a lake near or in Sandhurst.
Bet that's the plastic Santander ones! |

I could imagine a private collector might want them, replica or not. The same kind of person who might steal a highly collectible piece of artwork, or a well known pedigreed race car - someone with a ton of money and no friends.

Anyone who wants Eccelstone's knock-off tat should be sectioned not prosecuted.
And they are not even originals they are replicas of Eccelstone's cheap tat at that. |

Maybe a private collector wanted them, whether they were replicas or not? It's quite amazing what some people collect and the lengths they'll go to get what they want.

The Santander ones were probably floating on the surface.

I have to wonder if someone in a drunken stupor though there might be a significant amount of precious metals involved and decided to pull off the burglary. Then immediately dumped everything that was plastic.
