A letter from Foges
A letter from Foges
I have not always been Foges' biggest fan, but he is largely right. Sure there are a few journos with agendas or who are totally subservient to City Hall, but the good ones seem to call it as they see it. If we were totally reliant on the state controlled media (i.e. Supercars) or the waffling of the twitter set, we wouldn't be getting much insight. |

Was he referring to something (an AA cover line/story) in particular?

The challenge is, the hundreds of thousands of people watching the broadcast from the media team of the series pales into comparison to the tens of thousands reading the independent news sources. Even podcasts like Enforcer and the Dude managed but 35,000 views on their latest parity/safety car episode...

The problem is the electronic motor racing media in Australia are all pr drivel. They never criticise anything. They are constantly building up everything as the greatest ever. This is in complete contrast to the electronic media in all the major football codes. The audience is not completely stupid and can see through this so cannot be expected to have any respect for the “opinions” of these people.
The print media or what there is of it is somewhat better but most are very wary of getting on the wrong side of the Supercars organisation. |

Jess Yates / Craig Lowndes are Fox, and that's why they only show up pre/post race. Craig is still active in Supercars though, so he doesn't want to be on the outer, and Jess Yates isn't really hugely controversial. Most of the NRL (I am assuming AFL here as well, but I don't watch it) controversy comes from ex-players speaking their mind, in a place where they aren't going to be penalised for it. Fox doesn't have someone independent in that role, and they don't control the coverage and commentary during the actual event, so the scope for speaking out gets limited. |

Largely agree, however in my experience Foges and McKay are prepared to have an unpopular opinion and hold personalities in motorsport to account where as this hasn't been to much of the case with Craill.

I’d be perfectly happy watching a Roland Dane and Ryan Story show though. |
