LeMans 24 hours (ps2)
anyone have it? i just rented it to see if my wheel works with it. figures the only lemans game for the ps2 wouldnt work with my wheel. oh well
i jsut got done blasting around LeMans in a 2000 spec wr. nice car. really nice car. a little too much high speed understeer, but, damn does it accelerate so far ive gotten is up to 202mph it i4 has an agressive feel. even being careful with the gas and the rear still spun up but it was okay to controll. the only things the lola/ford had over the wr is smoother power flow (or is that down to less accerlartion? lol),better brakes, and turn in. anyways, its not the greatst sim, its still enjoyable and sadly as far as i know, the only lemans game for the ps2 the only real let down is lack of more complex set up and i cant use my driving force wheel ... graphics are kinda blah ... but who cares, its LeMans in our dream cars so, who else has played it or has it? im thinking about getting it still since its only 19.99 ... not being able to use my wheel is the only thing holding me back now ... |

I got the game for christmas, after successfully winning the 24 hour race on the Playstation one game. I had got a Wheel (Mad Catz) and had built myself a racing cockpit to make the game more real, and most importantly, more fun, and i find out that the wheel doesn't work. How jipped is that?
Does anyone know away to maybe get around this, maybe some adaptor or something? |

unfortanly when a wheel doesnt work with a game, its the game. if a wheel comes out after the game, appartently it wont work with the game

Le Mans on the PS2 is in my opinion a better game than the over-hyped GT3, because quite simply it's more FUN. It nicely straddles the arcade/sim line with a touch more sim than not, the graphics I think are superb, fast, smooth and very 'real'. The car handling is spot on, and the variable weather is also superb. And at £20, this is one game not be missed. Just a shame those new wheels won't work with it - and I was also most miffed at the fact that you can only watch replays once and not save them.

wahoo ... i finally beet my fastet unoffical lap time at lemans. first it was a 3.35 something with the lmp07. then in time trial, i got a 3.34.8 with the 333sp. then while doing the 24 minutes race, my first lap was a 3.36 then a series of 3.37, 38s, then i dont remember which lap it was. but, i got a 3.32.9 in the lmp07.
ill probably get it because of the price ... 19.99 ... lol ... i just need to wait for best buy to get it back in stock so i can use my remaining money in my gift card on it |

It's certainly a good game. The graphics grow on you the more you play the game. The view from the hood of the car is a cracker too, you can feel that braking force when it happens.
The one thing I'm a little annoyed about is that I can't save any of the LeMans 2000 races. It saves but when you switch the mahcine on later it does not load up the game. It basically ignores the save file as if it never existed. I've only got the 240 mins and 24 hour races to go to unlock everything. 4 Hour race is easy enough, that can be done in one sitting but the 24 hours one? Hamperred my enjoyment of th egame that the main feature of the game is bugged. Anyone else had this or know how to fix it? Having said that, I believe that is only the European version of the game (or possibly a select batch of them) and I think it was fixed for the American release. Es Nes - Well worth 19.99. It's a little arcadey but still a corker when you let it grow on you for a while. |

I know for sure on the Dreamcast version I got a 3:22 as a best lap but I'd need to go and have a look in the records page for the PS2 version. It'll be a sub 3:30 I think because I've beaten the time required to unlock a car in time trials. I'll get back to you on it in the morning.

*HAPPINESS!!!!!!* i just got the jaguar and headed over to lemans time trials. after a couple of throw away laps, i got everything except the second chicane on the mulsane straight well and touched the grass once exiting the porsche curves and got a 3.32 ... on the next lap i got everything a little better yet, most importantly the last chicane and no grass touching. i suddenly found myself 1.5 seconds ahead. then at the next check point 2.1 seconds a head. when i crossed the finish line, i had got a 3.25.816

Nice one. I checked my time for LeMans but I was mistaken, it's only a 3:30.573 in the Jag. So you're right on the ball there. Wonder if you could get the sub 3:20? I unlocked the Sauber C9, only need another few cars before unlocking the entire collection. I think it is the Lancia, Peugot 905 and another one(240 minute lemans race).
Congrats on that time btw, superb effort. |

im not sure if i could or not, once i finsihed that time trial. i went to the quick lemans race and resumed tring to break 3.30 in the r8. i almost did, then i spun the rear tyres very bdly coming on to the straight/finish straight. i was doing 90 or some when i should have been doing 130 or so ... that was some bad wheel spin. lol i got a 3.30.8 for that lap have fun doing the full 24 hour lemans. lol according to gamefaqs, thats where those last three cars are. lol the lmp07 is from the 234 minutes lemans race. aroundng to specs, its faster than the r8 Last edited by Es Nes; 12 Jan 2002 at 17:58. |

Saw you were starting the 24 hour race. Best of luck to you there. I'd have mine started by now but the save game bug in my version is preventing that. Don't think I'd risk having the ps2 switched on for 24 hours. I'm actually going to contact infogrames and see if they've reissued a fixed copy of the game. Having said that though I've still got to complete the 24 hour race in the Dreamcast version.
Tried the Sauber C9 at LeMans just to see where it'd lie in terms of pace. Couple laps in and a 3:24.639 popped up before I got interupted and had to stop. Very nice handling car that one. |

It's annoying having that bug but to be honest the only thing it affects is the 24 hour lemans race so it's not a complete loss. The game was well worth it to be able to play the Petit LeMans, the other game modes and time trials are still working. I reckon Brno is a great track along with Donnington. Great for racing on and the season modes were a good laugh too. I'm just a bit of a sucker for getting everything unlocked and not being happy until I do.
We'll see what happens. Keep us updated with the 24 hour race progress. |

im in for my second stop at the end of lap 40, the car sliding all over the place. lol. really bad wheel spin at the top of the esses as i make the right. i ve looped it there once already. ive looped it twice in the slow left that is the loooooong run to the porsche curves. i say we cut the porsche curves off and run a bit of straight track from the entarnce to the porcshe curves to the straight finsih line
laptimes have varryed depending on tyres and my head. so far 31-33 with good tyres and 35-38s with worn tyres. if ive toubles with constensy then it may be even slower than a 40 with new tyres. ive not really had much troubles with traffic other than the caddys lol the vettes and vipers are making some nice large hole in the air for me though and, about the pit stops, the only thing not forgivable because of ps2 limits is you dont turn the engine off. you sit there idling instead of shuting the engine off |

if im reading the clock right, as of righting this. im 2 hours, 33 minutes, and 33 seconds into the race (wishing i had a codriver).
my fastest lap is down to a 3.30.760 nd im strting to get some lucky breaks drafting wise. at the end of lap 59 though, breaking for the last series of chicanes *POW!* i smack into the back of one of the oreca vipers LoL i think the red r8 is 2nd followed by the black and then the clone of the yellow car. im also driving a yellow r8. lol has anyone else noticed the right tyre changer is fasater than the left slightly? lol Last edited by Es Nes; 13 Jan 2002 at 04:17. |

Nice one, you're definitely in the groove now. A quick question if I may.. when braking for the chicanes do you shift down while braking and let the engine do most of the work or do you brake until slow before shifting down? Shifting down while braking I've managed to brake as late as the 100 marker before the chicanes, it's all dependent on the car of course and its behaviour at those points of the track. Just curious about that.
A lap that is near faultless and breaks your previous best is an exhiliarating feeling. |

with the jag and the audi, ill usually start braking at 200 and down shift just before turn in. with the lola/ford, i could brake at the 100 makers and it wouldnt mater how i down shifted. that thing usually stoped on a dime. but then again, it didnt make it to 200mph. LoL
one thing i noticed was how long the tyres lasted, i usually started to slip and slide around by the 10 lap on the tyres. but, this set took 17 laps before i started having sliding around uncontrollably and losing too much speed. must be tht its getting dark. |

question: how do you take the first chicane? do you use the curb for the left that leads up hil or avoid knowing that hiting it wrong will send you into the gravel trap on the right?
