Formula Ireland – Ireland’s Premier Motor Racing Series
Stand By For Special Announcement

Following the news that big time single seater motor racing is returning to Ireland in 2002 with the introduction of Formula Ireland, the promoters would like to inform all interested drivers, teams, supporters and the media that there will be a very special announcement at this weekend’s Motorsport Ireland ‘Night of Champions’ awards ceremony.

Response to the introduction of the new Formula One style ‘slicks and wings’ class has been phenomenal so far and the organisers feel sure that Saturday night’s revelation in the Killiney Castle Hotel will be one of the most talked about in Irish motor racing history.

The exciting new Formula Ireland championship, a joint initiative promoted by Mondello Park in association with Motorsport Ireland, is set to revitalise the Irish single seater racing scene with grids of fast, sophisticated cars doing battle in Ireland’s premier racing championship.

The series is designed to test the ability of the best of Irish home grown talent and provide those drivers with the skills necessary to move on to the international stage.

The series boasts the biggest prize scheme in the history of Irish racing. The inaugural Formula Ireland champion will win a test drive with a Formula 3000 team, a substantial cash prize courtesy of the ‘Friends of Mondello’ and a commitment to career help and guidance from many of Ireland’s top motorsport personalities associated with the ‘Friends of Mondello’ scholarship scheme.

In addition the second and third placed drivers will win test drives with a Formula 3 team and cash prizes in what represents the biggest ever prize scheme in the history of Irish motor racing.

av8rirl should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
We'll have to wait and see how sucessful this class can be in a country with only one permenant race track... 2 if you include Kirkistown which is basically two long straights, a short straight and three corners...

It costs too much money in a country where the population very small. Last year they struggled to get 10 Zetecs on a regular basis. They would be better off supporting/promoting Zetecs as the stepping stone to better things. Just my 2 (euro) cents worth.

"big time single seater motor racing is returning to Ireland "

I think someone has got their press releases confused.
The only big single seater racing that could take off in Ireland would be a one make series for JCB Diggers.
Great that they have the ambition........But come on....There just aint the money.
Like the man said, if they can't get a decent grid of Zetec cars together.................Better break out that yellow paint...!

Maybe they could add in dumpers and teleporters (ie not a one make series) and they'd surely find a full grid...

I think Motorsport Ireland should give us jobs on the development committee. With insight like ours, we'd surely get plenty of press coverage and huge crowds....
