Corsica Top 6 Predictions
I know the rally isn't until early March, but there's no harm in starting this now.
Note: Corsica is NOT one of Citroen's seven WRC events this year, so there will be no Loeb or Bugalski. So, with that in mind my Top 6 is as follows: 1: Panizzi 2: Sainz 3: Makinen 4: McRae 5: Solberg 6: Loix |

With Citroen missing it should really be advantage: Peugeot. It'll be tough to bet against Panizzi for the win & Gronholm and Burns will be up there. Otherwise I think you're looking at Subaru and Ford. Tommi seemed happy with the Impreza in Monte Carlo & Petter is quick too (5 stage wins in MC), and you can never count out Colin.
I hope that the Mitsubishis go well; They could pick up a points placing if the others hit problems. The Hyundai could be interesting too. |

Well, Bugalski is entering with a private Xsara WRC, so he is still the man to beat, and no-one will!
1. Bugalski 2. Mäkinen 3. Panizzi 4. Gronholm 5. Colin McRae 6. Freddy Loix GO FREDDY!!! |

Yes, the private Citroen has definitely added an interesting new element to the mix (now all you need is to give Loeb one too)

Yeah, I heard just heard about Bugalski in the private Citroen Xsara WRC. In that case, my Top 6 now looks like this:
1: Bugalski 2: Panizzi 3: Sainz 4: Makinen 5: McRae 6: Solberg |

Apparently Spanish websites are talking about Jesus Puras also competing in Corsica in a privateer Xsara WRC. That should put another cat amongst the pigeons
So if anyone would like to re-amend their predictions..... Last edited by SJ Spode; 19 Feb 2002 at 16:39. |

1. Panizzi
2. Puras 3. Sainz 4. Burns 5. Grunholm 6. Harri (I have to put him in there. Go Hari! Hari for WRC! ) It will be a marvelous race -- next to Paris-Dakar it is my favourite. |

Seems the Spanish press were optimistic as Jesus Puras has not been announced in the entries for the rally, so it's a case of as you were troops.

Ooh, if Puras is not in the mix, then move everyone up one:
1. Panizzi 2. Sainz 3. Burns 4. Grunholm 5. Hari 6. A. McRae But this race is always a guess, as it's been so fraught in the past! |

wrc.com is reporting the weather for the rally to be as follows
Conditions have been changeable in Ajaccio, with warm, bright sunshine on Monday, overcast, grey skies yesterday and a thunderstorm hitting the western part of the island last night. Showers may hit the shakedown on Thursday, but drier more settled weather is expected over the weekend. However, conditions in the mountains are always unpredictable, so don't rule out the odd shower throughout the rally. Tour de Corse three-day weather forecast Leg 1, Friday 8 March: Dull, but generally dry 18 deg C Leg 2, Saturday 9 March Cloudy with some sunny spells 17 deg C Leg 3, Sunday 10 March Cloudy with some sunny spells 17 deg C This looks to favour the Michelin runners (Peugeot, Citroen etc) as the Pirelli - shod teams like Ford were wanting it wet. |

The final results were
1. Gilles PANIZZI 2. Marcus GRÖNHOLM 3. Richard BURNS 4. Philippe BUGALSKI 5. Petter SOLBERG 6. Carlos SAINZ I think that Tommi and Colin's exits knocked out most folks predictions |

I got 4 right but only 2 in the right positions. Not bad for this being my first year of watching Rally regularly!
What was Harri driving? |

Harri was driving the semi-works 206WRC that he and Gilles seem to share on their non-specialist events (ie; when the other is in the third works car)
I see him emulating Marcus in the future and becoming more adept on tarmac surfaces. |
