Alex Zanardi, who had both legs amputated after a crash in the German 500 last year, will start at this year's race at the Lausitzring

Yep, the Reuters story says:
"Lausitzring manager Hans-Joerg Fischer said on Tuesday that the 35-year-old Italian had agreed to signal the start of the race on September 21." Good ole Alex! What a guy!

NO WAY! PerhaPS AS the starter of the race, but not in the race, sad as it is. his racing days are over for the moment.perhaps in the future with more medical work, he is a champion for sure alex is.

I don't think there's any way to keep Alex out of race cars permanently. I expect to see him in sports or touring cars with hand controls once doctors give him clearance. Hopefully, someday medicine'll allow him back into an unmodified cockpit, though by that point he will be too old for a return to single seaters.
