GT40 to return in 2004
It is reported in the Thursday bible that the new Ford GT40 might return to Le Mans in 2004, it is rumoured that the car be come back to the great race in 2004 to mark the 40th anniversary of the beginning of the GT40 program.
It also goes on to say that the car might not prove suitable for racing, this is beacuse the protype car shown early this year was built round a spaceframe chassis rather than a carbon monocoque, which is likly to de rigueur in GTS by 2004. Lets hope the car is on the gird at Le Mans 2004 |

It would be cool to see Ford modify the car to fit within GTP rules

Obviously I really hope that the GT40 does reappear at Le Mans, (I'm tempted to start an unfounded rumour that Porsche are planning a new 917 but that would just be too much to ask)!
If they do go then I can't see them in GTP, GTS would seem the most likely candidate. I suspect though that we will see road cars there on display in the village, possibly with an original as well. I don't think the will is there to race the car, and while the pre-race publicity would be good, anything other than a victory in class is likely to sully the legend. Having said all that, Ford please prove me wrong! |
