Enge smashes GTS lap record
Tomas Enge shattered the GTS lap record in testing for Le Mans. The prodrive car was over half a second faster than Ollie Gavin's lap record in the saleen last year. The second placed car, the Labre competition Viper, was over 3 seconds down. The best Saleen was 7th. There is a warning shot to the GTS big boys, watch out for Prodrive. Lets hope they run reliable. There is also a rumour that Enge will be driving the car at Brno in the FIA GT championship as a one off.

Damn!
Still, that could be largely explained by the changes to the circuit. It's pre-qual, the only cars running flat-out, save for some GT teams really worried about making the cut, are guys like Enge with something to prove. I'd like to believe the 550s will be fast, but they were non-factors at Sebring. We'll have to see... |

They don't have the reliability or experience to race at the front for 24 hours this year. It will be a Vette show unless the Saleens can get their penaltes reduced. I have a hard time believing the Vipers are going to be tremendously competitive, but who knows?

I would'nt bet against the FFSE Viper not only lasting but picking up the class win after the Vettes/saleens & 550 have all raced each other into the ground.

I don't think they were trying to prove anything. Enge set the time in the morning (much slower) session. He didn't go out to do a quick run in the last half hour of the day like some.
They concentrated on race set-up in the afternoon. |
