Just take a look at thsi pic and notice the position of the steering wheel!

Sato was EXREMLEY lucky to get away with only a few scratches.
Did anyone else see the medic pumpin' his heart trackside?
I thought he was a gonna when i saw that!

Evidently he was not pumping Sato's heart but (probably) an inflatable brace or splint of some sort. At the time, I feared the same thing you did. But evidently he never lost consciousness, either -- he was just stuck because of the crushed monocoque around his legs.
