Are you a marshal already or would this be your first venture into wearing orange?

Woah! Hold your horses chaps! CART website says that Rockingham is off for 2003. There has been no mention of Brands. My contacts in the US say that Brands IS an option, along with Spa, Paul Ricard, Jerez and Mondello (Kidding!) but if Brands DOES come off, I would imagine the regular Course/fire/flag marshals will be organised by BARC. That is a guess, as they worked with CART at Rockingham. It may be the BRSCC may be asked - if they're cheaper! Observers wouls be advised to go straight to CART but 2003 hasn't been finalised yet. No volenteer forms have been distributed.
It would be great to have that lot at Brands though... |

... and I've still got a (very slightly soggy) programme to remember the day by. I'm not sure I want to think about how long ago 1978 was. Especially as I found myself reminiscing on Saturday about a race meeting that none of my guests had actually been born in time to see....

ASCAR is run by BARC, so I guess they will be involved at some point.

Can anyone put us in the picture over whether Brands actually has the right circuit licence to run CART?

I think CART do their own licencing. Provided there is an ASN licence in force I don't think they will have aproblem.
Is this why Octegon is "doing up" Dingle Dell/Sterlings? |

Brands has a full FIA licence. The re modelling of Dingle Dell is I understand, being done at the behest of the FIM to accomodate Superbikes.

What work is going on at Dingle Dell? Is there an article anywhere on the web so that I can see what's planned?

I'm not entirely sure but I think the track is being moved slightly on the exit as it is very close to the houses that side. I understand it's to provide extra run off areas. Try visiting Octagon's site or e-mailing them for further details.

According to Robin Murphy at the se BMMC AGM Dinglr Dell Corner is no more! The circuit will turn sharp right at Westfield and rejoin at Stirlings, which will disapear as well. Bummer! The only corner I've never marshalled at at Brands!
Should make Westfiel a bit of an overtaking point though... |

That must explain why the quality of marshaling at Dingle Dell has always been excellent then!

You can't be doubting Robin's word shirley! He did seem to be certain of his facts and it does seem the most logical changes to the track, seeing that the extra run-off would be some's back garden!
Still, it does mean that Brands will be once again chicane-free! Plus, if CART do move the show to Brands, are they going to slot in with AMOC who have a 2 dayer that weekend? Win Percy Vs Paul Tracey! I know who my money's on! And, are CART going to insist on a land-line being installed? Oh I hope so! And don't call me shirley! |

land lines!
land lines! If only. I guess if the CART observers made their wishes/desires clear to CART, who in turn could lean on the circuit, then the system could be wired in pretty damn quick. All of course being dependent on Brands getting a CART round. Myself, JJ and Racegypsy were wishing we had them in Korea after 3 days of (at times) woeful radio reception. As for AMOC, it seems they have turned their back on Brands for 2003, too expensive according to their chief marshal. |

I didn't think the last AMOC meeting at Brands was up to their usual standard either.

My first post, folks, so be gentle...
If Brands gets a CART date there will be a landline. Period. Maybe not permanent, but it will be there. Only a landline allows us to make the (sometimes multiple) real-time calls CART requires. One year in Rio we ran with a landline cobbled together from Brazilian TV cabling and headsets Fed-Ex'd down from the States. And I understand that Rockingham the first year sported a uniquely British take on the concept of "landline". But it's kind of non-negotiable that we will have one. Probably just for long enough that all you folks will become landline converts... PS. Hi, Racegypsy. See, you corrupted me sufficiently that I had to join in. keke |

Welcome Keke, glad you got here eventually, always knew you would find your way in from the cold eventually. (What is it there at the moment?)
I know your views on both CART & Canadian marshalling will be appreciated in these forums, so sit back and enjoy the fun with old and new friends (actually more old than you reaalise, half the fun is working out who's who) |

I don't want to doubt anyone's opinion, but the land line at Rockingham wasn't working for the first CART race last year. Mind you, the entire track wasn't working 100%! Every post has a phone line now, all they need is to run another cable round. If they want it done on the cheap, I'm open to offers! What else is there to do a January weekend except looking out for the latest Crystal Palace fiasco?

I'll chase up my contacts at Brands and let you know what the state of Dingle is at the moment though I can confirm it has been dug up.

Having used the landline type communications for the first time recently in Road Atlanta I have to admit to being a big fan. The fact that simultanious shouts don't wipe each other out (unlike our radios) is a great advantage. (It takes a little getting used to hearing your own transmissions though!!).

Another convert! only about 3,000 to go! You know it makes sense!
Yes Crystal Palace WAS a great circuit! Now? A Pox on Bromley Council! Maybe, if we all say what a great track the Hungaroring is... |
