New Jag Boss?

Lauda has received his marching orders, so who is the next victim, er , um, sorry, team boss?

Quote:
Planet-F1 has compiled the following list of 'Jaguar Boss' hopefuls, what do you think?

Situations Vacant: Wanted New Team Boss

...preferably without scruffy jeans and a hat that advertises a company not remotely connected with the team

5 to 1 Tom Walkinshaw
Tom has a good knowledge of the Cosworth accounts department and has used Ford engines in the past. He's got a lot of experience of team management and handling other people's money.
He also knows Bernie, the other team principals and has a good working relationship with one of Cosworth's 2003 customers - Paul Stoddart.
He's universally admired down the pitlane and by his staff.

10 to 1 Eddie Irvine
Eddie knows the Jaguar set-up intimately. He's good at spotting problems - he knew exactly what the fault on the R3 was when he drove it for the first time. "It's too ******* slow."
He's a good communicator and can get the best out of people.
He's universally loved in the Jaguar team.
Already owns Jaguar team clothing and accessories (which would be a saving)

15 to 1 Alain Prost
Alain has the experience of a four times World Champion.
A well-known fan of international cuisine, Alain would relish a move to Milton Keynes.
Advantages: Wouldn't let his ego get in the way of running the team.

50 to 1 Murray Walker, John Watson and Ben Edwards.
Murray is now thinking he retired too early and with the demise of F1 Digital, Watson and Edwards no longer have jobs in F1. So the trio could get together to form a management partnership.
Three heads are always better than one and between them they could talk Bernie into submission.

100 to 1 Craig Pollock
Like Tom Walkinshaw he knows a lot of people in F1. He also has time on his hands. Managing Villeneuve brings in a sizeable chunk of money so he won't be extravagant when it comes to claiming business expenses.

500 to 1 A Piranha
They say in the F1 paddock that you've got to be a bit of a piranha to swim in the murkey waters of F1. So who better than to run the Jaguar team than an actual piranha fish.
Advantages: Has the teeth and the killer instinct.
Disadvantages: Piranha are typically poor communicators

1000 to 1 Flavio Briatore
Advantages: Knows the back end of an F1 car from the front end.
Disadvantages: That's about all.

Whats scary is that some of these names are probably on Fords short list

Egad! Now that is a scary thought!

Seriously, who is there to take over the job? People have mentioned Jackie Stewart, but would he really want to re-join that sinking ship?

I think 'Jackie Stewart' says it all, they would've been better if he' never left.

We are forgetting that one of the reasons for Sir Jackie leaving was Paul's cancer and his desire to be with his family. In many ways I hope he doesn't go back to Jaguar because it would be such a mamouth task to take on, and his own health could suffer.

Paul had colon cancer (diagnosed in early 2000; treated, and in remission, I think).

Helen had breast cancer (diagnosed in late 2001; surgery, no further news).

Jackie has his plate full.

Plus after being released himself from hospital today after having a cancerous lump removed from his face Im sure the last thing Sir Jackie wants to do is run an F1 team.

He quit driving whilst he was ahead, on the grounds that the sport might very well kill him. It may yet.

I'm going to go for a rank outsider.

Experienced businessman, driver manager and very successful F3000 team owner - David Sears.

Best team owner/manager outside F1 IMO.

If they gave the job to Tom Walkinshaw, do you think we might see Arrows back on the grid with Cosworth engines?

Hugues de Chaunac?

Reinhold Joest?

Both have capable organizations and while not F1 experience have enough racing and factory racing experience. Thinking out of the box I suppose. However both are probably too smart for this.

Now that the Belgium GP isn't on the calendar and Mrs. Bernie Ecclestone's company doesnt control that event, maybe she can take over Jaguar.

Bernie has Slavica busy counting out dollar bills...

As for Jag manager, I think they'll just have a delegated board running it for the year before they can the whole thing. They just don't have the money any more...

Oh goody! I wonder what an F1 car designed by a committee will look like?

Well the fact that they haven't bothered to hire a new technical director in the last year should tell you something.

The Ford honchos have either been completely ignorant or half-arsed towards F1 - I'm not sure which yet...
