Buxton Impresses In VLR Test

Press release:

Quote:
Vic Lee wants rookie Daniel Buxton in his title-winning British Touring Car
Peugeot team in 2003 after he stunned them on his debut test at Donington
Park.

In his first ever run in a touring car, it took Buxton just a handful of
laps to get within 2/10ths of a second of regular team driver and
Independents Cup champion Dan Eaves.

"I know when I see a driver with the potential to become a very good touring
car driver - well, I've liked what I've seen and want to work with him. I
want this to happen," said Lee, whose team won the BTCC title outright in
1991 and 1992.

Buxton, from Northwich, Cheshire, says he could have gone considerably
quicker. "I wasn't going flat out this time and I was also having to learn
what goes off inside a touring car.

"There's still a fair chunk of time to come from me, but breaking lap
records wasn't the aim today. The team and I needed to see how well we
worked with one another and I don't think it could have gone much better."

Lee added: "To perform like Danny has in 20 laps in what is something
totally new to him is very impressive."

And said Buxton: "As soon as I walked into the team's garage this morning, I
knew I was in a very professional environment. The preparation and attention
to detail is meticulous and I felt welcome straight away. This is where I
want to be next season."

Having won Renault's highly competitive Clio Cup title, 24-year-old Buxton
stands out as a potential future star of the British Touring Car
Championship.

Judging by Vic's comments in the article, Buxton could be there for 2003. But Carl, Tim and Dan Eaves are great too! build four cars Vic!

Wonder when the test took place, as there is a current test ban. The only way round this is if you have a new car to the series? (ie the 307)

Good to see a team trying to run in new blood. What the BTCC is all about nowadays, British talent. Good to see it too. Good luck to Dan, I hope he gets a seat.

Interesting that they don't mention what car he was driving!! As there is no testing I doubt it was the 406 so...

I presume he has been testing the 307, and Dan Eaves has as well. This could be a BIG clue to VLR and Peugeot's future plans, as it implies that the 307s are being readied for the Touring Class.

Great test by Daniel in any case, but I can't imagine the teamrunning 4 cars, nor can I see Eaves or Breeze being dropped, or Harvey retiring. Breeze returning to single seaters is posisble though.

I have thought for a while Buxton should be in the Touring Class. He is an excellent driver.

I remember being impressed by his driving at the first Clio Cup race at Brands in 2000.

No names but he is way better than some drivers that are presently in the Touring Class and I hope he gets a drive next year.

Well, it would be interesting to see Daniel Buxton in a Touring Car.
Now, he wasn't going flat out this time. Could we read into that a bit more. Like maybe there's another test lined up. Or I might just be reading something that isn't there at all
