Eddie Irvine Quits F1
Well, Eddies thrown the towel in, as he can't raise the money for the last Jordan seat.He hopes to return sometime in the future, but its looks like the end of the road in F1 for him according to F1 livehttp://f1.racing-live.com/en/

Please amend title to "F1 quits Eddie Irvine"
At this stage in his career, he shouldn't have to pay for a seat, so really, nobody wanted him...too bad...so sad...I'm sure he'll cope...somehow...on his yacht in the Med...with some nubile young model to keep him company... Last edited by GTV27; 23 Jan 2003 at 05:20. |

...and joins CART!?
"As for Eddie, it is highly speculated that he may take up an offer made by Craig Pollock to join his new team in the CART series this season." - from F1-live, though I trust their stories about as much as I could eat them. Interesting, though - 2004 will see Irvine and Villeneuve in a CART team together perhaps?! |

The bugger wanted 6 million quid to drive for Jordan, and I have it from a reliable source that EJ didn't even want Eddie Irvine in his team. So now, the big question is who will fill the last spot left in F1 this year? My feeling is that EJ is dithering and he doesn't have a clue himself. It's like the sheik who walks into his harem - he knows what he wants but he doesn't know where to start.

He made up his mind in July, but was begging Lauda for an offer in October? I know your trying to save face EI, but do you know how stupid you sound? Bye Eddie, finally. |

I reckon Irv needs his ears syringing, he obviously mis-heard EJ's phonecall over the 'deal'....
EJ - "Irv -it's EJ - I reckon we can have deal for £6M" Irv - "Great when do we sign?" EJ - "As soon as we get your cheque" Irv "What cheque?" EJ - "The £6M we agreed on for the drive" Irv - "Me pay you, are you having a ******** laugh?" EJ - " Ok if you can't bring cash, what else can you bring" Irv - "team motivation, test and development skills - look what I did for Jaguar" EJ - "Bye -'click'" Last edited by Super Tourer; 23 Jan 2003 at 10:11. |

Kinda leaves Jaques out in the cold as the last remaining maverick F1 star - the last one you can guarantee a juicy quote from. Who'll be the next one to fil this role? Is there any driver out there with the potential to be a little bit more than an efficient corporate face for the team?
Mark Webber can be quite funny... perhaps once he's found his feet he'll keep us amused. |

Eddie was fun at times but it's drivers like him that were keeping REAL talent from getting a chance.
Coulthard next one hopes?!!!! |

There's lots to miss: Usually smiling for a start - a rare enough commodity in F1. A tough racer on his day. And always outspoken - I'd rather have a bit of moaning and something to talk about than antiseptic nothingness.

Yeah, I'm gonna miss him too. Both as a driver and as a 'clown'. Actually I missed him when he left Ferrari for Jaguar.

yes - he will be sorely missed from the F1 circus as Eddie is a character unlike most of the automatons that race in F1 nowadays!
