Video Review: In Car Sportscar Experience
I recently purchased this video about two years after first seeing it on the internet, and I was thrilled that it exceded my expectation of sound and image quality, and presentation.
This video has a cover depicting 1997 FIA-GT cars but in fact the video features the 1996 BPR cars. This is no cause for alarm but its worth knowing if you specifically wanted to see the cars featured in the 1997 season, you will be disappointed. There is however, some great footage of the longtail McLaren blasting around Spa albeit for about 1 minute. The video is organised in looking at differnt cars and tracks. Featured are fairly specific looks at the McLaren F1 GTR, Lotus Esprit V8, Porsche 911 GT2 Evo, Ferrari F40 GTE running around Nurburgring, Silverstone, Anderstorp, Monza, Paul Ricard. Other GT cars are shown around Spa including in car footage of a Marcos (turn up the bass) Mantara on the front row next to the black Davidoff long tail McLaren. You ride in the Marcos as both cars blast through Eau Rouge, and remain in the car for about three laps with virtually no commentary - a truely rare experience indeed. Brief reports are given on each cars progress and performance in the season with special attention to highlights and misfortune. Video commentary is minimal and efficiant throughout and aimed at race fans, with intelligent observations and insights. Engines you will hear: McLaren, Lotus, Porsche GT2, Ferrari, Marcos, McLaren 1997. Camera veiws you will see: In car shoulder, Front Bumper, and Trackside. Comment: I have not seen "In car 956" video or whatever its called, but I've seen CART, F1, NASCAR, and V8 Supercars on TV and this is much better because there are no interruptions in the good bits, no stupid comments. This is obviously a video by race fans for race fans. Is anything lacking in this video? Not that I can think of other than there is no XJ220 footage in any way, and Viper footage is extremely limited. Ratings out of 5 (e.g F1 coverage I would give maybe 1.5) Presentation -- 4 Sound --------- 5 Image quality - 5 Footage ------- 5 OVERALL ------- 4.5 - 5 out of 5 Recommendation: Buy it while you can, as it is one of the last few things available about the McLaren F1 GTR that has been ripped from the shelves due to licensing. You'd probably give "In-Car 956" 6/5
